Are you ready for the summer ?

Just saw this link on HOTUKDeals:

As i had time to kill today i thought i would pop down and get a re-gas as Mike had got a fault code when he did my cruise control - i figured £25 would be ok although i did have to show the monkees how to take the bonnet off

Anyway after 30 mins the chap came back to tell me the machine had diagnosed a leak and i would need to see a specialist, i have done a quick search but has anyone else had issues with their cooling ?

Cheers.

P.S
This may help someone as well :)

Whilst having my car serviced over the winter I supposedly had mine regassed. Though this was at the same garaged which claimed to have removed all wheels and checked the brakes. But the other month I discovered all wheels were corroded on and some nuts incorrectly torqued. So let's wait for the summer to see how cool the car is.....

True , i know what your saying. I can say though that it was definately 'working' the car. The machine clearly hadn't been used for a while however it was very modern, chap had to enter make and model and off it went - so i can presume what isaw wasnt smoke and mirrors. but you never know as you cant get quicker to fob you off than a quick fit you up fitter (or something liek that)

Incidently a chap with a 307 needed new brake discs and pads and he was quoted around £340 ! OMG

^ comedy post of 2010 :)

CC can sometimes mean Climate Control and does need regassing

CC can also mean Cruise Control and never needs regassing because it's only an electrical switch

Hope that's cleared it up :)

If your aircon performance is suspect I'd always recommend you have a diagnostic scan first and sort out any sensor problems etc before going to the traditional aircon service guys. The re-gas could be a waste of money otherwise.

Cheers Spike

Was this a LTD offer as i went in today but see no signs to say the price, going back tomorrow as the guy that does it wasn't in today, the cars coming up for three years ownership for me next week and i haven't had it done and i think it could do with a clean ready for the summer even though i do use mine in the winter for de-misting (big dog)

With the warmer temperatures it has made me realise that my aircon needs a regas. I switched it to 18c on Auto with the outside temp at 17.5c and the fan just kept on running and running as the air was not cold enough.

I have a new kwikfit down the road so I would be interested in the experiences of those that used them. They are quoting £49 but want an additional £20 to clean and replace the pollen filter. Not sure the clean is necessary and the pollen filter would not be OE and mine was only replaced 12 months ago as part of AVS at Audi, so I reckon is good for another 12 months.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good aircon specialist close to Hastings?

Well i had mine done with Kwik fit and the only bad thing i can say about the guy that did mine was that for some reason he left the dust covers on the front panel near the wipers, one got stuck under the edge of the bonnet and the other "God only knows" lol, the gas is suppose to be at 500 mine had 160 and oil 12 mine had 1 so it needed it

Cheers Phil

Audi dealers often run special offers on aircon servicing. I got mine done at Teesside Audi last year for that price and it included a wash and valet. Worth checking before you go to Kwikfit.

Air-con stinky

I'm not overly impressed with those that now run Newcastle Audi, so was looking elsewhere for my Air-con to be sorted.

Could have done with air-con this weekend, the weather was so fine, but not with the musty smell it produces.

Apart from Kwik Fit, anywhere else?

Thanks. Probably should have found that myself.

I'll consider the options over the next few weeks.

Thanks Spike, after enquiries, Kwik fit have been cancelled and I am booked in with Audi as their price is £49.99. Hopefully worth the extra 99p as the KF guy admitted he did not know how to get the bonnet off.

One interesting point - time quoted by Audi to complete the job is 45mins but Kwikfit 90 mins??? Different equipment?

I can recommend Paul Evans at Chilly Willy's 08454 700800
www.chillywillys.org who will come to your house or place of work. It will cost you in the region of £80 but he takes such care with the service, you know it is worth it.
He serves Surrey and Sussex and re-gassed the A/C and a applied anti-bacterial treatment to the vent system in my A2 last month.

Thanks for the recommendation. Some great reviews. I am not far from where they are based, so I will find out if I go to them if I can get an improvement on the price.

I wouldn't go to anyone that doesn't know how to get the bonnet off, the KF garage i went to did know how to take the bonnet off, and they said it will be about 40 mins or so. I also ended up getting 2 tyres fitted at the same time (so maybe he got distracted and thats why the dust caps never got put back on )and it was only £25 if it had been £50 then i would have gone elsewhere;)

HiQ stated 2 hours and £50, same price as Audi but twice as long. Do we know the reason for the extra time?

UPDATED
Went to Audi for £49.99, and got it done just in time for the start of the hot weather, and a long weekend trip to the Lake District.
