Audi Driver International Awards

Can I just remind everyone that the Audi Driver International event doesn't end at 5pm when the track closes - there is a prestigious champagne reception, dinner and awards ceremony, held at the Hilton Hotel in nearby Swindon.

As we are in the running for an award this year, it would be great if we had a decent showing at this part of the event too.

There are a handful of confirmed attendees so far, but I'm keen to get this number increased; it'll be a great evening and if we can get a table together, we'll get a discount too (that's the Yorkshireman in me!).

One of the great strengths of the A2OC is that we have members from across the spectrum: old/young, male/female, car nuts/just nuts!

The recent camping trip to Ullswater was a resounding success because of the variety of members attending and one of the comments that has stuck in my mind is that "I'm so glad we didn't sit around talking about cars all day and night".

So, if you are interested and would like to know more, either take a look at www.audidriverinternational.co.uk or PM me.

Cheers,

Mike

I've just had the following e-mail from Paul Harris, of Audi Driver Magazine:

"Hi Mike,

Many thanks for your enquiry about Audi Driver International. I must apologise for not having replied sooner, but I have been away.

The cost for the Gala dinner is £35 per person but, if you book a table of ten, then we can let you have one place free so that the unit cost comes down to £31.50 per person.

This is very good value. Not only is the dinner a good one, but it is preceded by a champagne reception at Swindon Audi and, at the end of the evening, we will have a free casino for guests to enjoy. The reception and entertainment are included in the cost. The presentation of the Audi Driver Annual Awards (which includes three categories for clubs) take place during the dinner. You won't often find value like that!

I have another suggestion. We have always had a good turn-out of A2s at Castle Combe. If your members (and other A2 owners) wished, we could arrange one or more track sessions purely for A2s. The number would be limited to 12 and the cost would be the normal one for a single session, £35. The cars could circulate at their own speed - there will be no need for them to drive particularly quickly. A normal session lasts about 10 minutes. This is a very good price for being able to drive around a top motor racing circuit.

If we do arrange purely A2 track sessions, we will have to have advance bookings from the drivers. They can do this on line by visiting www.audidriverinternational.co.uk .

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any others queries.

Kind regards,

Paul Harris"

So, over to you guys and gals.

If you are interested in the A2-only tack session, post up here and if you want to come to the awards and dinner, then PM me and I can then arrange for you to send me payment.

Cheers,

Mike

I'll be up for the A2OC Track Session.

Can we use one of the instructors if we haven't been on a track before?

Mark me down for a track session. I'll also be along with my wife for the meal.

Ben

Put me down for the track session, that sounds like a good suggestion :)

If we can get 10 for the dinner that will be great.. it's going to turn into an expensive weekend though.. £35 for track, £35 for dinner, plus hotel (at how much again Mike?), and then I'm thinking of going to the final round of the BTCC at Thruxton on the Sunday as I'm down there (Carl, are you still interested in that idea?)... yikes!

I need to sort out the camp site for the camping trip part deux, so will get in touch about the dinner when I get 10 mins to do all of this stuff!

All those wanting to do the track session, you must book in advance and online - see the original email from Paul Harris.

Booking online in advance entitles you to a 10% discount anyway - just tell them that you're from the A2 Owners Club. When the numbers get to 6-ish, we've got a closed track to ourselves! Max number is 12 though don't forget.

All those wanting the meal, please send me a cheque for £35 per head - PM me for details of where to send it. Once we get 10 together, I'll refund those 10 £3.50 each, so we're all square then.

Hotels are plentiful, although it kind of makes sense to stay at the Hilton.

Rooms there start at £70 for a double (not per person, so if there's 2 of you, it's actually cheaper than a Travelodge!!). Breakfast is included and there is secure on-site parking for £3.

Cheers,

Mike

Darren,

In reply to the questions from the other thread, there are still rooms at the Swindon Hilton still available, starting at £70 for a double room (that's for the room, not per person).

We are not limited to 10 - if we can get 20, then they will give us 2 tables.

You're right, it should be a great evening, whether we win anything or not (you have voted haven't you?) and it'll give us a chance to have a chat again.

It's not a black tie affair, although a lot of folks do choose to go down that route. Jacket and tie is the specified dress code, so if you don't have a tux, then there's no need to get one.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

No I haven't voted yet, but I intend to today at some point.

The evening dinner certainly has appeal and being a resident in the Hilton would mean a slight level of intoxication could well be on the cards - it didn't take much to pursuade me did it... hic?? :p

If it is not a 'formal' affair as such, I may well just wear the day to day suit or something similar - I better look to book soon I guess.

I will PM you to confirm Mike - today or tomorrow - will be great to catch up and admire 'Tank' yet again.

Cheers,

Darren

My votes in!!

Fingers crossed that this is our year; we as a collective deserve it and Ben, Mike, Carl, Spike and co. deserve it for their continued support, commitment and enthusiasm to the club and its members.

As one of our UK R&B singers would say "...if theres any justice in the world..."

Cheers,

Darren

I've been speaking to the editor of Audi Driver today and he tells me that so far, only 2 track sessions have been booked.

If you want to book a session, please do so soon, otherwise the offer of a closed circuit for A2s may disappear. We ideally need 10-12 cars.

Also, I've yet to receive cheques for the meals from anyone other than DarrenC. Once again, can you get them in to me so that we can reserve our table for the awards. Please PM me for the details of who cheques should be made payable to.

We've also been assured of 25 places on the club stand (plus or minus a few), so if you want to go and be there on the A2OC stand, sign yourself up here:

Mike are we looking at the 10/15 minute track session for £35 ....
I Think 10 mins around Castle Combe would be great fun for anyone in an A2,
Im Sure that we could get 10-12 cars together for a bit of fun,
remember you dont all have to drive around like Schummi.....;)

correct.

The deal is:

10-15 minutes of fast/as fast as you like lapping for A2s only. No other cars to worry about and the whole track to ourselves for up to a quarter of an hour.

If you book online, you automatically get 10% off, so that'll be £31.50, before the end of the month.

12 cars is the maximum on the track at one time for safety reasons, so get in early to avoid disappointment.

Cheers,

Mike

oops. I ve paid for the meals at on there website when i booked the track session.

Don't worry about it - let me kknow the reference number or whatever confirmation you have and I'll include it in with the rest of the payments.

You don't want to sit on a table full of A6 owners do you?

Cheers,

Mike

Looking at the calender, it seems like we've 11 people registered to come to the awards ceremony (including spouses) - so, we need a few more to make up a second table.

If we don't get enough to fill a second table, only the first 10 will get a 10% discount for the group booking, so follow DarrenC's lead and get your cheques in to me asap. Alex, as your booking was made individually online, unfortunately, you can't now benefit from the group discount - sorry. PM me for the details of where to send the cheques and to whom they should be made payable to.

Cheers,

Mike
