Audi S2 in 2004?

Autocars list of new cars due for release in 2004 includes an S2 set for an autumn release.

Does anyone know about this or have Autocar got carried away with wishful thinking?

That's the first I've heard of an S2.
It may be worth me dropping Autocar a line, as I am very intrigued now!

I did a quick google search and the first place to come up was your website: http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/clip31.htm

I also came across this Russian website: http://www.autoreview.ru/new_site/year2000/n16/schpien/schp.htm . All I can make out is that it might be a 1.8; has 150 bhp and goes 220 km/h ...but it was written in 2000.

Not sure about that S2 article as it was written so long ago, I'm sure if there really was an S2 coming, there would be a lot more hype.

How much i like to believe it, i don`t think it`s true. Never seen a S-car without quattro and i`ve never seen an A2 with it.

I heard some time ago that audi were doing a new a4 coupe, that would explain the new S2. Now that the cabriolet and saloon are both in "s" guise it would make sense.

AMP was right. The Russian text translates through an internet translator as:

Increases muscles and Audi A2. This updating will refer to Audi S2. Probably, on S2 it will be established òóðáîìîòîð by volume 1,8 litres capacity not less than 150 h.p., that 220 km/h will allow the smallest automobile of mark Audi to go faster.
Audi S2 - one more painful(unhealthy) impact on the main competitor in this segment, to a Mercedes of the À-class.

Anyone who wants to go 150mph in their A2 please identify yourself so I can keep well clear. My record is 135mph in a turbocharged Porsche in Germany. After 10 minutes of that I decided I'd prefer to live long enough to see my grandchildren...

Chivers it`s not about the top end but the traffic light grand Prix and the lok of surprise on unsuspecting victims!!!

A Quick A2 will be a wolf (Maybe not a wolf but a slightly aggresive domestic dog, much like princess Anne`s!!!) in sheeps clothing !!
