It’s not really a new member intro – more a return to the fold… Anyway, I thought I’d say an official ‘hi’ – it’s very nice to be back!

As some of you know I made a bad decision and got rid of my ‘02 silver A2 about 18 months ago, getting an ‘08 Mini Clubman D which turned out to be a disaster – 3 turbos in 5k miles, poor build quality etc. So a couple of months ago I got rid of the Mini, put a ‘wanted’ post up on A2OC, and a few weeks later I was the proud owner of forum member ‘Aluminium’s very nice black A2 tdi. It had a very light ‘platinum’ cloth interior, so after a little digging Timmus offered a set of black leather seats, and we did the work (and a few other bits) yesterday up in Lancaster. It’s now close to perfect in my eyes, so I thought I’d post a few photos, and a list of executed and planned mods.

Car:
Ebony black A2 tdi Sport, 75bhp with working Opensky, currently on 71k with fsh. I’m the 5th owner.

Previous mods:
-Stealth remap
- 17” RS4’s
- cruise control

My mods:
- 6 gear MYP Passat gearbox installed
- black leather heated seats
- Pure DAB head unit with Bluetooth installed in place of original Concert head unit
- polished Audi 15’s installed with 175/65 R15 tyres.
- Dension ipod connector removed (will be up for sale shortly)
- sunroof blind removed.
- starting problem fixed (G40 crank sensor), ashtray fixed, various squeaks fixed.

Planned mods:
- dateless registration plate (just waiting for the paperwork)
- heated mirrors (Audi)

It’s now close to perfect in my eyes. This is definitely a keeper! :)

Lovely looking A2, congratulations. I personally would have stuck with the RS4 style wheels but it still looks great on the 15s.

Aesthetically maybe, but I don't like the ride on 17's, and the tramlining on the, erm, tramlines in Manchester was horrendous...

Looks great, welcome back!
I know what you mean about the ride on 17s - I've had 15, 16, and 17s on my car and now I'm back on 16 again.

I still love 18s, yes a slightly firmer ride but really great steering response!!!

Each to their own though.

But I know what you mean.

Its a Pure Highway H260dbi bought from Halfords, which comes with a free dab aerial which sticks on the inside of the passenger A-pillar, and a microphone which locates on the inside of the drivers A-pillar. I can't tell much difference in audio quality between it and the (non-BOSE) Concert head unit it replaced. It works very well for making calls hands free, but crucially it gets 6-music and classic FM with perfect reception - I've driven all over the north west since installing it and it hasn't dropped from 4 out of 4 bars of signal once. Obviously its not an OEM solution and looks a bit 'Halfords' (which is where it came from!) but functionally it's perfect.

Photo of it here, showing the head unit, aerial and microphone:

I was bought it as a present with fitting included by Halfords (Ashton, Manchester) but they didn't know what they were doing with the wiring and after 3.5hrs I gave up with them and resolved to work it out myself. Using the diagram on the back of the radio, and the diagram on the new head unit, I think I've got it working perfectly using harness connector PC9-401, although I'm not entirely sure the rear amp is working as the rear speakers sound a bit 'tinny'. I had to swap 'live' and 'switched live', and modify the 'remote-amp' lead.

You'll need an Autoleads harness (either PC9-401 or PC9-404) and the Autoleads fascia blaking plates FP-05-04 as the Concert unit is much wider than standard head units.
Total cost to me was £129 for the unit and aerial, £31 for harness and blanking plates, and £29 for fitting = £189

If I were doing it again I'd ask for recommendations for a good ICE outfit near you (who are used to working on Audis) and get them to fit it. Or I'm sure if you ask forum members Timmus (Lancaster) or A2Cars (Milton Keynes) nicely and cross their palms with silver they'll do a better-than-OEM job...

Hi Russ,

Very nice car indeed. I've noticed an interesting tray with heaters controls under climate control panel. Was this fitted as standard?

Cheers,
Mariusz
