2005I’d say that air filter is well overdue? When was it last done?
Morning Edd:Morning,
Does anyone have a top tip for stronger fixing of the little panel to the left of the glove box iid? It's a small curved panel with lots of slots in it.
Seems.looser than it should be.
Mine was loose, when I got the FSI, because the tab at bottom was missing. @A2Steve provided a replacement, (part, not tab!), and it's fine now.Morning,

Thanks, as you know always an ongoing project. Hoping come next weekend I'm done for now!Big congrats on your accomplished rescue mission, Ed.
Looks like a smashing little car.
Welcome.Today's jobs were old mans mint low milage merc w212 air and cabin filter, then onto the Mambo! I've changed the bonnet fingers finally.

See the mastic rubbish on the old ones, and fitted new cups in the wings. Thanks to @2work and @Ami for the bits!
The bonnet now fits and removes correctly. Just flap to sort next week.
I also replaced the fuel filter, was a genuine one in there but fairly dirty.
And while under there I took the wheel arch liner off (dead easy) and made sure I could remove and replace the 16 nuts for the rear shock next week.
I changed the pollen filter that was 2013 model so the classic A2 footwell clean up ensued.

Oh wow look at that thing!!
Fan blowing quieter now.
It would be a strip and clean for sure, should the day arrive. Are you going for a head refurb when it’s off Edd and assuming the bores etc are good?
My feeling is that it's not the head, or head gasket.Exhaust smell could be several things other than head gasket. Could just be old stale fuel or an additive in the fuel to clean out the system that has not yet completed its cycle or even something external that is burning off the exhaust system - you didn't leave any rags down the back of the engine when you changed the tandem? I am not a fan of EGR delete. The AMF is vac operated so you can unplug the small vac hose and block the hose off to prevent vac leak.
I would have a compression test and a coolant pressurisation test done to check for leaks before starting to worry about the head gasket just yet.
It's amazing how many A2's have Cabin filters fitted like this. Just imagine how poor the air quality must be.Today's jobs were old mans mint low milage merc w212 air and cabin filter, then onto the Mambo! I've changed the bonnet fingers finally.
