Boot not shutting

I know that this has been posted on before in the archive by a few people, but the last week or so the boot needs a good two or three attempts to shut. A real slam in some cases.

Did anyone have this and get it rectified and if so how?

Have the same problem - I'm just resigned to slamming it the last 10-12 inches! I think it has to do with the 'cabin sealing' as when you have another door open its not a problem?

Mmm, I might test that out, it has worked flawlessly for the last 6 months and yet recently doesn't seem to shut at all well. Wonder if it's anything to do with the weather.

I found that if even a small thing was close to the closed bootlid it would not shut properly. I now make sure that there is nothing within 50 mm of the closed lid and it shuts Ok every time

I always put it down to lack of weight of the tailgate versus strong gas struts. I found the "push hard when nearly down" method worked.

I don't know-all these differing methods for different items!.

I find that it is caused by the latch mechanism (in the door) sticking. If you apply a small amount of pressure to the latch, it moves into the correct position and then shuts easily. I think slamming it just causes the latch to move, however could cause potential damage.

I might just grease the latch a little bit and keep an eye on it now (curious, but when the weather turned cold again over the weekend it shut with ease).

My boot is a real b****r to shut sometimes too. I find the that the harder you slam it (mainly out of frustration) the more likely it is the bounce and not close. The trick I have found is just to let it close naturaly from a height. It's still quite irritating sometimes though!

Are you coming to the club social?

Be careful! This happened with mine and eventually the boot shut and would not open at all, even with the emergency release. You need to get the latch aligned and greased or you will suffer the same fate!

Oddly enough when we picked ours up in September the dealer said that the boot could be difficult to close at times and the trick was to let it close the last 10-12 inches under its own weight and not to slam it!

My vehicle also had this problem, which from all of the posts I read I considered to be incurable. My Audi dealer thought otherwise at my last service, adjusted the boot (or trunk lid, as commonly used outside of the islands)and low and behold, both my baggage comparment light now works (didn't before)and the bood shuts easily. Suggest working on the adjustments, or maybe I am just lucky?

Thank god its not me going mad!... all very new to this in here (hello to all!) and I thought I was going mad when I have to keep slamming my boot... in a weird sense its nice to know I am not the only one! I am sure Audi would say its one of the 'characteristics' of the A2!

Darren-welcome to our happy world!!!!. 1 post down, hundreds to go!!!!. Get going lad.
