Hi everyone

Opinions/recommendations sought for decent
Disc and pad combo for bug my tdi 90.

Like everyone I don’t want to bust the bank as I’m doing front and rear but don’t want to compromise too much on quality!

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Rya

Eurocarparts doing a 50% discount on brakes today - just priced up the full set of 2x Pagid front & rear discs, with Pagid front & rear pads for £91.72. Some people here have recommended the ATE ceramic pads to eliminate dust - these are considerably more expensive but at half price could be worth a shot? Mind you, I have the full set of Pagid fronts on my 1.4tdi 75 and I'd buy the same again.

I’ve just had to rub my eyes and slap my face! 50percent off!! That’s mega! Ha ha glad I signed in today!!

I’ve just been on and same came to under 100 bucks! No listing for rear pads? I’m presuming they are the same as the fronts?

Always use Mintex myself - no need for 50% off deals on artificially high starting prices. Ebay have the front discs and pads for £47 delivered (search MDK0152) and rear discs and pads for £34 delivered (MDK0037). £81 all in for a TDI 90 - can't go wrong.

You're welcome!

If it was from Quality Car Parts in Manchester, you'll have zero issues - known those guys for years and they're superb. How they do it delivered for the money, I can't work out.

Ive used the Mintex from eBay as well. Came well packaged and a very solid and good looking set they were too. Meant them only to be temporary while I sorted something better but they’ve been on for two years so far and no problems.

I should also point out that on my other half's A2 last month I put the £47 Mintex brake box set on the front that a few folk above have mentioned so I'm not anti-Mintex. They feel fractionally less bitey than my Pagids (they're both made by the same people but seemingly the pads have a slightly different composition according to the garage), but that could be a number of other things in the set up as well. Both front and rear pad sets were on the ECP site this morning.

Just to mix things up I bought font and back pads for my 90 for under 50 quid...brembo. I'm not sure on their budget pads but will find out when fitted. Have to be better than the comlines the bandit garage fitted to my car last year!

I run Brembo xtraline drilled discs and normal brembo pads. Total i think was £200 ish.
Do you think stopping power is any better on those discs? They look very cool but not sure you'll get full benefit on an A2 not sure :)

No they dont feel any better as far as i can tell. I want to do a big brake kit upgrade in a year or so haha.

The best combination I found so far is brembo X with brembo vented or grooved disk (or standard brembo disk if X is not available for the car).
Maybe 10-15% better braking over standard.
I am not buying anything else.
I tried ate the better ones but the combination is not as good as brembo. Ate ceramic is even worse but there is no dirt.
Ferodo premier lost their touch a few years ago.
And anything else consumer wise is just...not good brakes (if you go into performance area things change but brembo is still present:). ).
