buckling audi 17 alloys

To date: I had sent a message on the audi uk site and had no reply, so sent it again. I also have had no reply from my local dealer, but be assured I shall let you know once I hear anything.

I can only assume that Mike won his case, therefore set a precedent.

Well, I wouldn't say that I 'won' my case, not in Audis eyes certainly!

I did get a very good settlement however, although it was a goodwill gesture and Audi accepted no liability as to the suitability of the wheel/tyre combination.

Let's put it this way, what they offered me paid for a new set of wheels from Ebay (Tanks current ones, which just happen to be genuine Audi TT Speedline alloys) and a bit left over, plus a free service, which saved me a fair few quid!

Cheers,

Mike

In the end

In the end what is the best we are looking at getting back from Audi?
I had two new tires fitted, both front. One had only been on there
9 months as someone hit the side of my car and i had to have new wheel plus tore ,and this newer one was well low in tread and the other was from new
both same make P ZORE.
When he was Balancing he called me out to have a look at the wheel going round on the balancer and both were in a bad way and needed 60gs of Balancing whight on each one .
You could see the flat spot on the wheel:(
What can we do ?

I guess if they are not fit for purpose Audi should replace them, but if they just replace with the same its continuing the problem not answering it.

What do I want?

I would like them to confirm that there is an issue and for them to suggest a solution, after all they are the car designers not me.

Audi UK answer:

"I have spoken to our technical department who advise me many of the Audi parts are generic and used on more than one model.

The tyres, however, on an A3 are larger due to the weight and size of the car and these tyres would not fit on the A2. As the Service Manager at your Centre has inspected the wheels on your car I can only be guided by his opinion."

Doc

I think it was mean't to be " has not inspected your car" I had better book it in although would this alter their response?

I would keep insisting that the wheel/tyre combination is not suitable and that the wheel strength is not sufficient to withstand impacts unless protected by a sidewwall of approximately 100mm.

Would they warrant this wheel if a 225/35 tyre were fitted? I suspect not, but that is the size needed to give the same sidewall height as the 205/40 A2 tyre, which equates to 82mm.

Also ask why ALL other A2 wheels are unique to the A2, that is the 6-spoke SE wheel and the polished 15" version on the standard car. These are not found anywhere else in the entire VW/Audi range, so why is it that the 17" wheel from an A3 is fit to be used on the A2, when used with a smaller tyre?

Combine this with the crashingly harsh ride on the Sport model, and it all points to a hurridly developed car: "We need to spice up the range with a sporty version, but need it quick and with existing parts!"

You will need to keep on hassling them, but I got a satisfactory result in the end - keep on pushing.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike,

Thanks for the reply, I shall keep going and keep others informed, It's the experience and tech. Know how that is greatly appreciated by me (and I am sure others) on these occasions.
