Cambelt and water pump change

Can anyone tell me if the engine needs to be dropped out to do the cambelt and water pump change.
I have just found a 1.4 petrol and i was wondering if i should do this before i get it put in. The breaker said that they took it out out of a running a2 which had done 44,000 miles but there is no reciept to show it. Any ideas...!

It doesn't need dropping fully, just lifting slightly. However, it would make the job far easier if it were done outside the car.

Hi Mike, this engine is £400. He said i can get £50 knocked off the price if i give him my old engine after i take off the starter, alternator and gearbox.

Firstly -Is that a good deal

-Should i keep this one and get it rebuilt, I'v been told by a mechanic they don't last long when they have been rebuilt (i don't know)

-Can you tell me, is there any other parts that i might need off this engine before i decide to give it up.
