Cambelt change info from Audi

Had a letter through from my local Audi dealer yesterday, thought I would pass on the advice.

It states;
"From 1 September 2009, all vehicles built before model year 2004 should have their cambelts replaced after five years of 75k miles, whichever comes first.
This slight change to policy has been implemented after considering feedback from Audi Centres and customers. If you choose to ignore the reminder you are potentially risking serious damage ...... blah, blah, blah."

So to summarise, several cambelt have failed before we predicted and we don't want to pay for them anymore ;) ?!

It says all vehicles (with the exception of the RS6 (c5) 4.2 biturbo), both diesel and petrol.

This wasn't a surprise to me, but the blanket nature of the advice suggests they are either; 1. Worried about warranty claims, or 2. Druming up business!!

You can make your own minds up.

Cheers,

David

Nothing about cars built after 2004?

I think they were already listed for change at 75k miles.

This is because the previous reccomendation from the VAG group was ridiculously optimistic, as I know to my cost when our Mk 4 Golf snapped a belt, well withing their recomended mileage.

About a year ago there was a number of threads about cambelt change intervals with some widely different opinions and interpretations of Audi advice.

This one (May 2008) says 4 years / 60k which ever is sooner

This one (May 2008) says 75K / 60K depending on the engine (BHC / AMF)

And this thread said 4 years come what may

I played safe and changed mine at 4 years / 45,000. It did hurt the pocket but my neighbour with an A3 blew his engine up and I think it cost about £7k for another.
