Can I fit a 3x3 seat belt in place of lap belt?

Yes, it's also like this with the electrics - pretty much anything you add which is electrical needs a new loom (with the single exception of the heated mirrors for some reason).

I've got the bench seat, and would much prefer to have the normal seats, but I'm never going to change the car so it'll never happen.

Yes,

That would have been a good approach, but I am guessing that they must have a valid reason for doing this, or why else have the expense of creating two different floor layouts and all of the tooling involved when they could have one.

The only thing I can think of is that these floor connectors are pretty sturdy things and since it is an alloy chassis they might have been expensive to install?
Perhaps so expensive that it made no sense to put them in if they were not going to be used?

Same with the wiring looms, if the customer didn't specify BOSE (for example) why put in the BOSE wiring (or reversing sensor looms etc.)

Since they were reportedly losing £4,000 on every A2 they sold (believe that or not) they are not likely to add to the cost by installing looms that did nothing.

So even though I also find it disappointing, I guess I can perhaps see why it has happened?
