Cant get into reverse gear

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone had some advice on what I should look for. Today suddenly my 2002 TDI 75 refuses to go into reverse. The rest of the gear changing is fine and I drove home ok (luckily could roll back out of parking space). Again when i got home it wouldnt let me engage reverse. No grinding or anything it just felt like I was hitting something solid rather than engaging a gear.
Car has 97000 miles on the clock.

It may be the plunger on the reverse light switch has seized. A simple check would be to unscrew the switch then check reverse selection. Location of the switch is shown here (post 6) - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?6493-reversing-lights&p=50503#post50503

This happened to me a couple of months ago, needed new gear link cables, cost around £200 at my local garage..

Couldnt get into reverse gear this morning either. Drove to work and it popped in straight away. Hmmm. I'll adjust the cables I suppose and keep an eye on it.
