Hi Every One.
I trust everybody is keeping safe during this pandemic, now your allow out to play kids!
So I mentioned in one of my posting that once lock down gave me wriggle room I would have a Carbon Clean (Tera Clean) carried out on my sub 85k miles 1.6 FSI Sport.
The reason why it took longer that the norm, my mid-section silencer exhaust to the rear needed a fix prior to the clean.
Saturday I drove a round trip of 166miles to a well know VW/Audi tuner, who carried out the carbon clean. During the drive from start to finish I took note of:-
How the car started, Warmed up, responds, acceleration, rev range engine noise etc. All the normal good stuff we moan about. With the exhaust now intact I did see a mark improvement.
Hour or so later arrived, handed over the keys and popped to a shop for hour +/- Got a call hour or so later that the car was ready.
On collection I was lucky to speak to the tekkie fella. During the clean; a fault appeared. Nox sensor which was cleared and no other fault (NOF) was in the ECU. Told me it was a tidy motor.
So 20+/-mins or so after our chat I got back into the car, from which the engine was now cold(ish). What a noticeable difference (for the better);-
Easier start (Cold starts & idle are also notably smoother)
Quieter
Much better idle
Not that the car ran badly……..
I sat for about 30/40 seconds and drove off. (Stereo with some bad arse tunes off). Car felt different more energy aided with E5/99 shell fuel. Once warm and choke off; stopped in some traffic then re-joined the M25.
Wow Wow Wow. What a marked difference. Engine is quieter; Acceleration is so much smoother throughout the entire rev range. Especially 2nd& 3rd gear changes now feel smoother and less 'clunky'. (I can drive) and the acceleration NICE……. Throttle feels much responsive. Had to do my 1st over take and boy….. All I can say; feels like an up to date hot hatch (if you get my drift). Rev’s have dropped much better all-round not so high is what I’ve noticed at 70.
The cruise home was at a different level. Engine quite… Stopped at one of the services for a latte extra shot (as you do) then continue my journey. Start was perfecto and the cruise/drive was easy. Idle Acceleration as good as pure gold, Wow, Wow Wow. The whole car feels totally different. The engine behaves so different. So smooth………..
On arrival home I allowed the car to idle as per normal for 30-45 seconds. My Son came out and remarked “Car sounds different”…….. Silent’s is golden….!
Didn’t drive the car till the following morning (7.30ish) boot camp get fit with some nutters. So a wash and tango was the order of the day. Early morning air was a little moist but dry. Engine like’s an early morning wakeup call now. Wow. Carbon clean has made a big difference worth every penny. Has given me a bench mark as to what I want from the engine. (Possible race chip tuning box)
For me it not about top end speeds. For my little beauty it’s about every day runs and being able to keep sensible pace in traffic where the need arise. And some fun. lol
That’s not to say that I won’t keep an eye on the manifold situation flap and will still consider the Pro Boost upgrade once I have a better feel from the blog reports. However for now from cold to operating temperature on local journeys and a run. Wow
To conclude; Get a Carbon Clean is more than the business.
Next in line is the suspension. That’s going to be fun……
PS. Once every 2 weeks or subject to my journey am a great believer in checking under the bonnet before I motor. As we can top up levels without removing the bonnet I still like to remove the hood and have a butchers. I call Maintenance Maintenance and Maintenance
Hope this helps anyone thinking of a carbon clean
