I've liked all of mine
Nostalgia trip time...
1973 MG Midget 1275cc. Chrome bumpers, round wheel arches. Minimal power, but minimal weight and minimal grip too. I learnt everything I know about oversteer in that car! Got me hooked on soft-tops.
1987 VW Scirocco GTX. The one with the Golf GTi engine. Really quite fast, nice steering (no wussy power assistance), minimal brakes. Reliable in the major areas but a tad quirky re sunroof, windows etc.
1988 Citroen CX 2.5 GTi. Don't laugh. I thought it was cool and I still do. There's nothing comfier than a hydropneumatic Citroen. Amazingly responsive brakes and steering require a different driving style. Not really a driver's car.
1998 Ford Ka. Fantastic handling, no power. My mum still has it. Very reliable in the major areas but interior is a bit eggbox.
2000 Audi TT roadster 1.8T 225bhp. Back in a soft top. Fabulous interior. Handling similar to Scirocco - plenty of grip really and then understeer when provoked. Some memorable trips to the south of France in that one. Now hooked on Audis with BOSE, leather, heated seats. All following cars follow that pattern...
2002 Audi A4 Cabriolet 3.0. The most beautiful car I've owned - just perfect from every angle. Nasty suspension settings let it down.
2001 Audi RS4. I have seen the light. For me there is no better road car than an RS4. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, space for the shopping, totally reliable (not one thing has gone wrong) and very easy to drive when you're pootling. Then an absolute beast when you want it to be. Nobody knows what it is so no boy racer / plod hassles. Wonderfully safe at normal speeds - so much grip and braking in reserve. Will probably never sell.
2005 Audi A2 TDi 75. For London commuting and other family duties. Handles like the Ka (which is a compliment), lovely interior, makes me smile.
... and some motorbikes.
Cheers, Richard.
