Got my 1.4SE today :D and was hoping to get my panasonic CD changer fitted to it, that I had fitted to the standard head unit of the beetle. Looks like the audi head unit has no CD control [29].

Its the Audi Chorus sound system , with the power/volume button in the centre of the unit. Can someone confirm that this unit cannot control a CD changer?

Ok what are my options? How cheaply can a Audi CD head unit be obtained? Does the A2 have a standard style slot for aftermarket units?

Someone please help, can't do without CD for very long.

Well been to local in-car installer and am looking at maybe a head unit to work with my Panasonic changer from the beetle. Apparantly I will need a harness adapter/face plates/ and antenna lead?

The current chorus head unit won't let me use fader, says 'fader off' and no sound coming from the rear speakers, the guy at the instal place thinks the previous owner had an aftermarket unit in as the rear speakers (not playing) are not audi ones.

Anyway its going in to the shop on tuesday so he can remove the audi chorus and check whats behind, cos if the previous owner had an aftermarket head unit he thinks they will have left the harness/antenna adapters behind.

Grrrr, why is nothing ever simple?
 
I dont know for sure if it is the same one but our radio is on page 5 of european owners and we have a fitted pioneer CD changer for 6 CD s

Hey mate, I have had all mine apart and i have no wiring to the boot for a cd changer, but I think an aftermarket headunit is quite an easy fit - local Audi dealer said it is quite easy even if your car has the canbus.

When I have looked into it a bit more I will let you know.

PS, Shao Kahn, I would fit the changer in the glove box if I go down that route. I had an alpine in the glove box of my MK3 golf and found it to be much more handy.

Nope, yours is the concert, mine is the chorus:( Looks like I have the only Audi stereo thats incapapble of controlling a CD changer! And I really wanted to keep it all looking standar audi finish. Looks like I may have to change the head unit for an aftermarket one after all :(
 
Ex new beetle-if you go down the glovebox route for your cd changer, make sure you offer the unit up first (unless your ripping out the glovebox). I had a panasonic 6 cd changer in my SEAT Leon-took it out for the A2 and found the angle of the glove box meant the changer got wedged half way in.

It would have been a boot install had I gone through with it.

You are not the only one with the problem. I haven't even picked my car up yet, and find that I have the same Audi Chorus head unit. I was having the dealer install the Sony CDX-T70MX MP3 changer, that says right on the box that it works with the Audi Chorus unit. He is now getting an FM modulation 10 disk changer that will be set to button 6 on the radio. I'll see how it works when we pick it up at the weekend.
 
Don't like the sound of running a changer through FM? Wouldn't have thought its ideal?
 
Have you considered the ipaq route using windows media files?

I have seen alot of people use this in the past and just asked myself why bother! But being new to the ipaq i am a complete convert, No CD`s or changer in the boot, Sat Nav, Internet via mobile for traffic Jams / traffic news when away from home. I am 100% hooked on the IPAQ!!
 
You can check out this site. It seems not to have the most competitive prices, but does let you know which models are supposed to work with the Audi's systems (except the one Ex New Beetle and I have).

I'm waiting to get a SonyEricsson P800 phone+ when the prices come down. That might do the same thing as your ipaq, but let me only carry one device.

This is how it looks with the Kenwood FM Modulator 10 disk changer. The CD controller goes into the little space under the climate control, and doesn't look too out of place.
You just have to tune your radio to 88.3 and press the play button for the CD. So far working a charm and no need to get a new head unit.
 
I have a simple question? Does a Alpine CHM-S630 or Sony CDX-T69 6 Disc CD Changer fits in the clove compartment? Do i need some special leeds for my concertI radio and have anyone some picture's for me, please send it to [email protected]

1.4 Petrol, Airco, remote, ABT front stripes.
