Centre Tray

Ade,

Pass..
I've run out of usefull things to fit? well by myself anyway.

I suppose the next thing might be speaker upgrade - front and rear I already have an 4x40 RMS amp. and have been quoted £350-400 UK for speakers. need to save for that one through.

Webasto upgrade to full remote - costly £500+ - This would have been the Audi upgrade if they had wanted it. (contacted Webasto direct)

Chip ????? not till warrenty runs out.

Heated mirrors - not convinced I need then.. Yet.

Oh. That front grill - someone must make one.. I can only hope.

I thought the same about the mirrors... but they even work with rain! So driving in rain they clear a treat and believe me they are useful getting into a car that was outside all night and mirrors are totally frozen over... AND it looks neat when you switch them on and you get out to start clearing the glass etc 1st thing in the AM and steams starts coming off them! ;)

Heated mirrors, you need'em. When everything is covered in frost they are fine, anyway we've got them, so you need them.

Ade,
Are you sitting comfy.. then I'll begin.

As you know the centre tray fits between the front seats as per Johann pictures and is for those A2's with double DIN radios as they lose a storage pocket (not much use anyway, unless you wedge something in it).

This is not for the faint harted as it looks and feels like your ripping the car apart but most definatly worth it.

Here goes...

Pull handbrake cover forward along the line of the handbrake. (catch the silver ring)
Pull the lower cover forward (There is a little clip at the lower forward edge.
Pull the hump (bit with 12V socket) up and unplug and remove.

Wasen't that easy.

Remove the 12V socket from the hump. (The silver bit pushes through the Orange bit and through the hump.

Replace the 12V socket in the new tray.

With the tray upside down remove the 4 (four) metal and plastic lugs around the edge of the tray (NOTE the lugs in the hump need to stay )and remove the 4 (four) smaller plastic bits in the middle of the tray.

Stick the 5mm thick Number Plate fixers on the under side of the tray after the curved supports (only 2 are required) (NOTE need to be the 5mm ones)

Fit tray into car (need to select odd gear 1,3 or 5)
Reconnect the 12V socket (only fit one way)
push tray in to position and press down
Replace the handbrake covers and the silver ring

Finished.

Ade, if your still reading, Why.... 15mins and its fitted.

Mmm, 'sounds' easy, but I don't have the parts in my hand yet so will have to wait until I do (damn). Did you take any pictures?

Did all the bits come supplied, or did you have to modify it, you mention 'number plate fixers'?

sig_ade.jpg

What you get is the Centre Tray only from VAG Parts, the number plate fixers are from Halfords and are used to stick number plates on without screws, have photo of these as well.

The only thing that need to be modified are the lugs on the bottom of the tray, Cut then off..

Well, I thought I'd try this bit first, just to see how easy it is to remove these bits, how on earth do you get the handbrake handle (handbrake cover) forward? I pulled and pulled, but no movement.

Any tips?

Have you looked at the picture of the rear cupholders that Martyn sent? That shows all the bolts etc for the centre bit too... maybe that will help?

You pull and wiggle the handbrake lever.

Well, centre tray arrived this morning (+ parts for rear belt system in boot and also a spare part for my A4), but haven't opened it yet and probably won't get to fit it until Friday morning.

Lee, have you got your pictures back yet?

I'll take some photos and produce some guides where required.

Lee, this lunchtime I managed to get the handbrake bits off in just a minute or two, but couldn't get the cigarette lighter out of the old console, the orange bit didn't seem to budge. Any clues?

I see you had you 3 shredded wheat.
Got the photos back an hour ago so will finalise the guide tonight.

as for the 12V socket you need to push the silver bit through the orange bit (out the top side) you will need the squeeze the 2 spring clips (these hold the lighter in place when depressed) and push firmly (DONT PULL - NOTHING WILL HAPPEN).

To remove the orange bit squeeze the orange clips and out she comes..

I will try to explain better in the guide (if I can)

Still waiting for the Belt system through.

Ta. I'll try tonight.

I got my belt system today also (small issue is I only got one belt instead of two - should be one per side :() and fitted what I could this lunchtime, piece of cake. So I have half a belt system anyway! I'll take it out again and do a guide on it tonight with some digital piccies so should have something soon. I did seem to get a lot of spare parts I didn't need though (about 9 in total) so I'll be in touch with Martyn to firm up what it should have been (or where I've missed things from the fitting [:0]). Seems to work though!

I'm plucking up courage to order the seat back map pockets. This requires puncturing the seat material to fit so not quite so simple, but I really miss these pockets so I'm going to give it a go.

Missus thinks I'm mad.... [xx(]
