Check your Fuel Flap!

I had a problem with mine on Saturday. The flap wouldn't open when you pressed the button, fortunatly I wasn't too far from the dealer, they managed to open the flap and lube the pin release so it worked again.

By the time I got back to the Petrol station, I put 31.5lts of Diesel in the 32 ltr tank, and that was to the first click on the pump. So I guess I was close to running out.

Must be worth a quick lube to avoid the same happening.

Are you shure it was that, it sounds as if you microswitch is playing up (drivers door catch) it wont let you open the flap with the buttons on the B post, you can get to the soloniod that opperates the flap from inside to boot, remove to cover behind the taillight and you can just see the it near the fuel flap just push the bar down and it will release the flap

Cheers Phil

I had exactly the same problem on my 1.4 petrol about 18 months ago - bought the new switch from dealer at 14 quid or so and fitted it myself - plug and play, although you need to bend the interior trim back

Hope that this helps

I can only say what the dealer told me. He said that the pin which releases the flap was sticking. Which sounds true, as I tried opening and closing the door many times, pressing switch in every scenario, and it never opened. The interior light was going on and off OK. Tried disconnecting the flap switch and re-fitting and that didn't work either.

Now that the "pin" has been lubed on the flap, it works faultlessly everytime.

Thanks for describing how to open the flap if does fail again.

Fuel Flap Switch

Hi,

Can anyone suggest where I can get a switch for the fuel flap & how much it might cost? I've had no luck from local VW/Audi specialist

Thanks
