civic mpg makes the a2 look uneconomical!

using the proceeds of alfies sale and a little extra we've just bought a honda civic 1.6 i-dtec. lovely car.

free road tax and - get this - on a 75 mile journey through the m4, a-roads and city traffic, averaged 84.3mpg for the journey! incredible figures really

the downside is that its a lot wider than the a2 so ive had to install rubber bump strips on next doors wall so that when i reverse on to the driveway the kids dont smash the doors in to her house 😣

the other major downside is the lack of a support forum. there are various civic facebook pages but mostly american or typically not the model of civic i have.

i think a lot of people take the a2oc for granted but it really is a shining example of how a peer-led support forum should be run

I like that engine but I wouldn't throw A2 into the bin yet. I would love to see monthly average or better how many miles in average after couple of full tanks.

I owned one for a year, best diesel engine on the planet, it was designed from blank canvas to bring honda up with vag group in terms of efficiency. Its simply superb car. I average about 68-70mpg over that time doing mixed driving and about 14000 miles.

If it helps greencarguide has already done that here... 61.6mpg mixed use. Much better than most cars claiming 60/70/80+ mpg, but usually falling well short!

that's exactly what i have in the same colour too
