When the Climate Control is in the Auto mode,if I switch to Econ the Auto button light stays on with the Econ Button until I select one of the Air distribution buttons, is this normal?

Ah, a man of many words. Don't you just love him.

All the Econ button does when in AUTO is to switch the compressor off. Thus when you drive with your roof open for example it is not battling to try and cool the car. It will try its best to maintain the temperature set, but obviously without any AC cold air. Pressing an air distribution button overrides the AUTO completely and it won't manage the temperature...

Doesn't pressing a fan or distribution button over-ride the air distribution controls, it still controls the temperature automatically.
Oddly enough I never appreciated one of the Climatronic's features until the passat went (same system) on auto/econ it will not put air onto the windscreen until the cold damp air in the system from overnight has been cleared (into the footwell). On cold mornings the Honda steams up - the A2 and Passat do not!
