Cloned registration

Really feel your pain this is awful! good excuse to get an "A2" reg but obviously it's a few hundred quid for the cheapest ones, hope this goes away quickly!!
If it goes on too long I might. Until they catch them I need to follow 'the process' which is reporting it for a new police CAD, and disputing each and every penalty charge notice. I'm thankful it can relatively easily be identified as not mine, otherwise the process would be even more painful!

I could SORN it, has we've our main family car besides. I'm not sure that would do much. The offending car is being driven in London and the met police now have a london-wide 'stop' marker on it.
It would make no difference with the stop marker in place. I hope you get this sorted soon, a right old PITA.

I think SORNing the car is a decent plan as there is a chance the offender will get clamped when parked on the public highway. However it might also result in even more ANPR computer generated fines coming to your address for you to deal with.

The hassle and stress this is causing... All because you can order show plates without any identification as your entitlement to the reg.

Been thinking about this horrid situation, if it happened to me I would swop the bonnets from my two so it would always be completely obvious if the pictured car was mine or not

I’d consider a new private plate something like A2 xxx . £200-300 for a new plate. The existing plate will disappear from the system ending the fines and letters as there would be no listed plate with DVLA to get keeper details as it’s now replaced. Said cloner would have to find another plate to use and should be caught quicker with a non existing plate as no tax, MOT or insurance when checked

We should could fund the plate between us. Tenner each.

Thoughts from the forum on this idea?

Could it work?

Edit
In the idea stage.
A private reg solves the problem but is that something the owner would want?
How to get the cash collected in one place...
and so on.

Anyone checked out what plates are available with the A2 prefix?

Had a quick dvla search for a suitable A2 plate.
Can't find a suitable candidate for a good price.

Back to the drawing board

That's too kind, and I couldn't possibly accept. It's a lovely idea and gesture, thanks!

If I get many more infringement notices / it goes on for too long, I may end up buying myself a new reg.

Ps. Absolutereg have lots beginning A2 which cost £165 (or about £280 all in transfered).

Well for one I would spot give a tenner.
If I put myself in your position I would say the same.
Totally understandable.

If you change your mind ?

Just say we could give it a go? I'm terrible at this admin thing.

Ultimately its what you are comfortable with.

:)👍

A private reg or any change of reg will solve the problem until next time. My 80 odd year old old man drives around with BUL571T on a Kia. It got cloned, if they asked nicely he may have sold it.

Evening all,

There are plenty of A2 private plates available direct from the DVLA which is half a tank of fuel cheaper than third party offerings:

The lower letters after A2 have long since gone but if you’re not too fussed about the meaning of the last 3 digits then £250 all in(including assignment fee) isn’t too bad at all.

Kind regards,

Tom
