Cold weather

Was driving My Ford Iveco van to work this week and we have a very large empty Car Park at the back
which has been iced over for days so every morning when i go to turn around i have been practicing my Handbrake turns .......
Well most times as the van is so big it just does not happen but after the 4th attempt today managed to do
a full 360 spin in one continuous move even managed to correct with some opposite lock and a bit of extra power
even my mate Russ Swift would have been proud LOL !!!!

All i can say is The Ford Iveco van is a ****box to drive
but it has a great turning circle
thats what i tell the boss anyway ....

One for you to watch out for is a frozen boot lock causing the car to stay unlocked and open.
I ordered a new boot lock as i thought it was the Micro switch on it, but it was actually the boot switch actuator that was frozen,so I stripped it down applied or bathed it in WD40 ,reassembled and volia another waste of £26.
Car now has spare boot lock on shelf for stock

Prancing around last night -12°

just remember Diesel starts to gel at -10°

and is usually on warrented to -15°

I dope mine with whatever I can get my hands on,to drop it lower.

anyway old gurl was tootling along fine last night as the area was down to -20° and probably more with wind chill

Flashing coil light

Had the flashing coil light on about 6 months ago and was told that if the brake light weren't working it could be the brake light switch, so i replaced the unit with a genuine audi part. The light has been flashing again for the past couple of days along with the cruise control not working, so from past experience the first thing i checked was the brake lights, and they again were not working, so I took the brake light switch out applied a bit of WD40 and popped it back in, sorted, brake light on, cruise control working and no flashing coil light..

My A2 has also been disliking the cold. Fair enough, she has only been to and from work so not been able to get warm enough.

However, today, leaving work I put on the demister and all power was lost. No matter what gear I went into she just crept along at about 15mph, and revs were very low. I stopped and after she seemed ok, but revs were below 1000 at idle, and not as high as normal. Is this due to the cold?

Also the amber engine warning light is lit, the garage said it was a message from the cat converter about air in it not being correct. They said it was OK, but may this be a reason for the cars 'shudderyness'?!

Any ideas?

Disturbingly, being left outside in the cold weather sometimes causes my car to display an oil pressure warning. Of course, the one time this happened when I was passing my local garage and pulled in there the warning disappeared and could not be convinced to return. There doesn't seem to be any problem with oil level.

I'm going to have to book it in to get this looked at.

You could have the wrong oil in may be worth giving that a check.

Well its been a week now and nothing all's fine still (but then all the snow around us has been gone since sunday)

Well, my A2 is back from Preston Audi, a very friendly bunch they were too, and gave me a discount!

Anyways, the problem was with one of the Lambda Probes, and she was also give a software update to solve another two problems, so my A2 is back to normal, and no lights on the dash for a change!!!

My A2 is back at the menders, having a new ABS unit installed. Hopefully, he'll be back to his old self tomorrow!!

Cheers,

Mike

Just noticed, but my turn lights started to malfunction. They blink once and then nothing, or blink at random speeds. It seems that the -19C temperature we're experiencing has just duffed my blink relay. Not to mention i'm only a few degrees from having jelly in my fueltank...
LATER EDIT: This morning i tried to start the engine, and it started only on the third try. The starter seemed sluggish so i think the battery is a little discharged, but once the engine started, i got a red coolant temperature on my dash, along with the yellow abs and three bips. Turned off the engine, started it again but the warnings were still on. I then proceeded to ignore it as i was late for work, and just as i was about to arrive, it disappeared.
Could it be an antifreeze related problem? Is there an ultra low temperature cold start protection? I'm baffled.

Well my lights are back on again today, so it looks like i'll have to fit a brake pedal switch (what the cost of these?) and i take they are easy to fit? any links on here for fitting?

Cheers Phil
