Cost for purchase of extended warranty?

Hi folks,

Another question for the A2 collective. So, I've just had my dear old A2 in for a dicky speaker connection on the Bose system and they got it all sorted with a minimum of fuss and within the day, which was nice. Also returned it washed. However, the warranty runs out in January, and were little (or not so little) faults like that to occur after the standard warranty, I fear that the 90 quid an hour Audi dealers round London charge, for labour would stop me being able to afford to resolve such issues.

So, how much to purchase an extended warranty? And is there any limit upon how long it can be extended? I've had a search in the cached stuff here on the forum and previously asked question about extended warranty reamined unanswered. Also couldn't find anything on the Audi.co.uk website.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

James

Hi James, I'm not too sure about extended waranties but once you are out of warranty why not go to independant specialists who are more often than not enthusiasts. In my experience they are just as good, if not better, at resolving problems as any main dealer. Their premises may not be as impressive as your local Audi garage but their experience may be far greater. Most of them use genuine VAG parts. As for audio problems there are audio specialists aplenty.

Hope this helps.

Hi Shaf.

thanks for your reply. I know what you mean, but I am what I am hoping for is peace of mind, so I pay out a certain amount upfront, and then any problems can be covered by the Audi group.

Does anyone have experience of buying an extended warranty for their A2 yet, or has everyone with a 2001 X sold them on? ;o)

I went with warranty direct but be very careful as they have so many get out clauses - for example if you have an oil leak then the crankshaft main seal on the clutch side is covered but the cambelt side is not! Also they don't give out any money without a fight - I've managed 50% on one claim so far but no refund of car hire whilst car was in for fix.

Audi Warranty is dealer deal and has similar limitations but much more expensive. Best to write direct to Audi in Germany for results.

Yesterday I was quoted £480 for a year (4 th yesr of car's life) . It wasn't clear what was included - I asked for details and was given a glossy brochure to take home and read but when I got it home it appeared to be the standard brochure describing the 3 year warranty which you get when you buy new. I need to go back again and ask
