Cost of service

It's time for my 1.4 petrol (on variable servicing) to have its 4th service (2nd major one). Mileage is 67k. Phoning two of my nearest Audi dealers they quote £370 and £388 for the pleasure. Does this seem extortionate to anyone else or is it just me?

Would a VW, Seat or Skoda dealer be worth trying (same engine as in their ranges I believe)?

Well it seems a lot to me, it's almost double what I pay for the Volvo, independant specialist but..... . I go to my local VW main dealer and ask them to beat the Audi dealers price, and they do, The service is much better as well, front office that is, I've no complaints with the guys with the tools in either place. I'm told that SEAT may well do better, but it's inconveniently too far. I have found a good independant but am reluctant to entrust the A2 to them, cos even Mr Audi has b******d it up. Well over £100 an hour these days, compare that with my state pension!!!!!!!

Yep totally agree with you hollyrescue. I take my A2 to my local VW garage now but the only thing they cant do is diagnose faults as they dont have the Audi software but saying that its not needed for routine stuff
My advice is try the local VW agent. they will use Audi parts

Jimber

I had my 90,000 service, 3rd VS, Audi = 380, Volkswagen dealer = 188, you do the numbers... same bits, same guys....

Talking about all of this servicing has got me thinking, as my A2 has just today started flashing up saying it's ready for a service even though it had one in abuot october. The car has done just under 40k and is on an '02 plate but it's been making me think exactly why you lot have been taking the car to a main dealer as it's obviously going to cost more? Would there be any specific difference from taking the car to a main dealer compared to an everyday general garage that say they have all the computer bits n bobs to reset the service screen, etc?

Cheers

My Volvo specialist, will do Lexus, Mercs etc. But when I showed him the A2 he said he would rather not. This man is no fool, so if you want an independant look for an Audi specialist, even then..... I have doubts.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll definitely be phoning VW for a quote. I'm also looking into taking a daytrip to France and having it serviced at the Calais Audi garage (living in Sussex it's not too far for me to travel). I've read reports of the cost being about 1/3rd of the price here in the UK. Anyone have any experience of going down this route?

personaly I would stick to to the VAG group and not take it to an independant garage. After all servicing is very important for keeping the car road worthy. You propably paid a bit for your A2 dont spoil it by paying monkeys to look after it.

Audi servicing quotes

Here is a quick list of 2nd service costs for a 1.6 FSi on variable servicing. Of course this will not be valid for the whole country but hopefully it gives a comparison. I only rang dealers in my region with the exception of one (Cambridge) as I often visit there.

Reading Audi £385
Basingstoke Audi £355
Newbury Audi £400
Swindon Audi £340
Cambridge Audi £360

Prices are including VAT, parts and labour.
Typically the nearest one to me is the most expensive! Great! However I used to work with someone at Cambridge Audi so I'm awaiting a call back to see if he can do a deal. Otherwise, Swindon's for me.
