Cruise Control - Information Needed

Hi!

Do you know were the cruise control plug is installed on the car?
As far as I was informed, we need to connect wire(s) to a specific plug somewhere on the car...

Could you please help me with it?

As far as I'm aware, you only need to swap the left hand stalk (indicators etc) on a RHD A2 for the stalk with the cruise switches. Then enable it via the canbus.

Usually on stalks, the plugs are moulded onto the ends and plug directly into the sockets on the steering column.

There had been quite a bit of discussion about this in the past and I think this was the general concensus. Saying all that, early A2's without canbus will be a totally different story.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.

The plot thickens - I notice that although my A2 does not have cruise as standard it does have a fuse for cruise control in place in the fuse box... Other options, such as heated seats have no fuse ... I wonder if it is just a question of plug it in and away you go.

Plug in and set the computer to "know" it is there... so you do need to have one of those tools or use the club's one if Ade now knows how to do it! Without this being set the computer won't recognise the stalk.

Hi all,
on Friday I bit the bullet and decided to fit cruise control.
I'm of on holiday on Monday and I will
I have an early 2001 TDi model and I had already checked and there was no wiring pre installed.
I bought the new switch plus a special connector which I knew I was going to need for the switch end.
It took me the best part of four and a half hours to fit, but knowing how it goes now, I could cut that time easily in half.
If any one want's, I will put together a kit with the switch, plug and the bit of loom I can make up plus a full set of instructions with photo's on how to fit it for £99.00
You will still need to go to your local Audi agent at the end of it and have it enabled, but if your friendly with them you will either get this for free or no more than £20.00 as it only takes 5-10 mins. If in doubt, ask them first.
You will need a test to be ok with carrying out some dash dismantling and some wiring connections, but otherwise it's OK.

I assume you took off the steering wheel to fit it ?

How can you tell whether you need the extra wiring ? - does this just convert the connector that plugs into the old indicator switch.

We have a late 2002 FSI which I'd also like to add cruise to.

Hi DaveS,
sorry the previous posting went a bit strange, you have to remove the steering wheel (usual rules on the air bag), cowlings, underdash cover, drivers carpet, passenger carpet, passenger floor cover plate and a few other bits.
If you remove the cowlings and you see on the left hand side of the instruments the loom that goes to all the switches and attached to that you see a small connector that has two rows of five connectors with a total of six wires in it that is white in the middle and black round it's out side then this is the cruise connector. If you dont have that then you'll need to make a new wiring loom piece up.
I am now off on holiday for three weeks driving through France Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain and then France again. So my Cruise control is going to get a 4000 mile work out to test my installation!!

Sorry, I forgot to answer your question, the original indicator switch plug is untouched, the Cruise uses only the new plug that I have described in the previous waffle.

By the way, I thought I would mention that I have the wiring diagrams for the multifunction steering wheel and will study them when I come back to see if it's a possible retro fit.

Had a quick look at the cowlings. Looks like kust 3 screws (2 at front + one near the height adjuster hold it together.


I'll take this off when its a cooler day to work on the car and see if I can see the cruise plug. PLus never start a job on Sunday night when the missus needs teh car first thing Monday !
