Hi everyone! I'm writing from Italy. I have some question about the retrofitting of cruisecontrol on A2 top tdi 90cv.
I've found on the forum that i could mount the VW kit 1J0998527A. It includes also the cables?
Is is fully compatible with Audi A2?
If it's ok i call the nearest seller to ask the price..
Thanks!

I've seen that kit by kufatec but I want to buy in Italy because kufatec wants 20€ of shipping cost! very expensive!

for 20€ I would bit e the bullet and get this one... at least you will be able to work with other who have used the same kit and get the job done... you could buy something cheaper locally and end up in a mess which could be much more money to get out of

ok..so I have to substitute the trim and the cables? where can I find some illustrated guide?
But where is the ECU?

The ecu is in the lower compartment of the passenger footwel on a right hand drive A2. I don't know if they are the same on left hand drive cars. But when you lift up the covers you will soon see.

Good luck with you instal.

Yep, I used the cum cartec kit and it was very easy to slip the terminals into the ECU. Also, fast delivery very good service.

Cheers Rob.

Dam you Rob, comments like these and links to very reaonably priced kit just mean I`m going to have to order one. Assume you need vagcom to enable cruise mode?

Did you connect it yourself?

Thats an Ipod adaptor and cruise you`ve sold me on.

haha Olly, I apologise! The Cruise is a little more tricky than fitting an Ipod link though! Quite a lot of trim to be removed as well as the steering wheel and then it's obviously crucial you connect to the correct pins on the ECU (there are a lot of them!). It's not a job for the faint hearted! Yeah, cruise has to be enabled on Vag Com. It just involves entering a code.

Cheers Rob.

Excuse the newbie questions: I am a relative innocent with regard to the arcane world of hacking the A2. Having read through this thread and a couple of others on cruise control, I had a couple of questions. If I bought the Cum Cartech kit:

1. Would I need any specialist tools (star-drives, etc) to remove the fascia panels?
2. Would I need a garage to 'activate' something on the on-board computer (ECU? Vag.com? Don't really understand the terms)?
3. How much are they likely to charge for this? Would it be worth getting them to do the whole fitting?

My level of car technology experience is pretty slim. I once changed an air filter in a Vauxhall Corsa, that's about it. I dread ever having to use the compressor kit to reinflate a tire on my A2. However, I am pretty handy with home electrics (installing thermostats, lights, sockets etc) and can build PCs and laptops from scratch, so am not a total dunderhead - I've just always lived and worked in Central London, where owning a car is about as useful as owning a parasol in a British July.

Thanks in advance.

If you're not familiar with VAGCOM or VCDS doing the code in, then I suggest you seek someone who are more experienced. That's not to say you can't read up on the software and required cabling to connect to a computer. As for 'specialist' tools (not really specialist, just general hand tools available in auto parts stores or even Halfords), I'm certain there are a couple of Torx screws on the lower steering column cover and the steering wheel requires a large spline bit to remove.

If you're in Central London and don't want to buy all the tools and invest time to do the job, may I suggest you ask fellow forum member Sarge768 who is based in East London and would do a good job.

Thanks for the info Humps. I'm actually based near Bristol and East London would be a bit of a trek for me for this fitting. However, I do have family in Essex, so I could arrange something if I am heading that way anyway. I am thinking now that I may contact some of the local Audi/VAG specialists near here and see if they'll fit the part for me. Maybe I will stick to installing the XCarLink as that's more in my field of expertise.

Would Southam, Warwichshire be nearer? That's where Vince @ Stealth Racing is based, he works on a lot of A2s.
