De Cat

A quick question about De Cat pipes.........

Are they just a custom piece of stainless steel pipe, or are they more than just a pipe?

I have noticed on various De Cat pics that there is some sort of bolt hole?

Basically they're just a straight pipe that goes in place of the cat and then it is clamped to either end of where the cat used to go.

The important bit is that the joints are tight and that the clamps secure.

Cheers,

Mike

If the pic was of a petrol de-cat pipe, there could be a tapping for a lambda sensor.

Thanks guys,

Is the standard exhaust pipe 2"?

I know the miltek is 2.25"..... I have sourced some SS pipe from Pipewerx on ebay, so i have the choice of clamping the new pipe in place or having it welded in.

If you're doing this on a petrol, I'd stop now, as you'll have to replace the cat at MOT time.

If a diesel, yes, carry on and the standard pipe is 50mm I believe. You'll need to cut slits (4) in each end of the pipe to enable the clamps to do their stuff too.

Cheers,

Mike
