Difference between Interim Service and Major Service

My A2's reading 500miles till next service, I'm not sure what service this will be, a Major or a Interim.

Whats the difference between the two and is it for worth going to Audi to do this? I have full Audi Service History and would like to keep it that way to be honest, but don't know how to tell what service it'll be?

Can someone help, thanks!!

Take a look in your service handbook. Interim is normally every 10k (1 year)and major every 20k (2years), so what you need very much depends on the cars age, mileage and what info you have on what was carried out at the last service.

In reality, the annual is a basic oil service at the dealers and theres more done at the 20k such as air and pollen filter.

Cynically, theres about £100+ difference between the 2 at a franchise, but I would go with an independant who will take much better care of your wee ally pal!

If you are set to variable servicing, I dont know too much about that really

Servicing

Thanks Murdo!

I just checked my service book, and a Interim Service was done last, that was at 30k.

My cars coming towards 40k, so i'm presuming its a full service, do u reccomend going to AUDI or a Audi Sprecialist? Will there be much difference in products, services, price, parts etc??

Cheers

Where are you based Dev and members can hopefully recommend you a local garage? Im sorry to say I would be wary of going to a franchised dealer unless another member recommends them. I would lean towards an independant who will take good care of your car - and they will be much cheaper too. At 40k miles, I would consider having a full service carried out and I would also think about the cam belt change on a '52 plate car even though your miles are low.
Budget on around £200 for a major service and an additional £300 for the cambelt if its not been done already.

Differences

Just found this site and it states a Interim Service is every 5,000 miles or 6 months and Major Srevice is Every 10,000 miles or 12 months.

The Interim Service on this site is more then Audi Dealership, and the Major Service is £9 cheaper. Mite aswell go dealership at these prices???

Will have to ring around for specialist in the Bristol area!!

Well that's bobbins!

The A2 does NOT need servicing every 6 months - period.

It's a pity you're in Bristol otherwise I could look after your servicing for you - as I do for a number of other members.

Cheers,

Mike
