Can DIS be retro-fitted, and if so .... what likely cost - or, not worth the outlay?

It would be cheaper and easier for you to change your car to 1 which already has dis.

The clocks alone are about £650 and they MUST be coded by a dealer (VAG COM can't help in this situation).
Add in extra sensors and wiring and you're looking at £1000+
