EGR Fault Code

Hi All

I have just yesterday purchased a really tidy 1.4 SE, and today it has thrown a code for a faulty EGR valve.

I have taken back to the dealer and he as told me that this is something that can happen when a car has not been driven for a while. In the last 2 years car has done 5k miles!!

He reckons it should disappear once I have done a few miles in it!!

Can this be the case or is he buying time?

He has offered to replace the part if the engine light comes back/does not go away again.

It should go out if the ECU recognises that there is no reoccuring fault after 4 times with no fault. ( I think )

If not take the dealer up on his offer as it is not your fault :)
 
He is fobbing you off. I assume you have just bought the car? If so then retirn it and tell himyou arerejecting thecar under the sales goods act 1979. The longer you keep the car the harder it is to reject it. Reject in writing and tell him that if the car is fixed you will reconsider your rejection.
 
Also bear in mind that you can make the light go out for a while by resetting using vag com if the dealer is unscrupulous he will do this tell you it is fixed and then the light will come on again in a few days
