Engine not starting

Hi, can someone tell me a possible explaination as to why my a2 1.4 petrol engine would'nt start after an engine change. I recently lost the key for it and had to get a replacement. The new key opens the doors and started the old engine, but now the new engine is in it would'nt start.?

Are there any sensors that could stop the engine from starting,

does the ecu need to programmed to the new engine or key,

are there any step-by-step proceedures for getting an engine to start as,

Ahhh, I've just replied to your PM, but didn't know that you were using a new key.

This new key must be matched to the ECU and clocks and will need it's transponder changing.

Hi,

Don't think it's the transponder as the key was fonctioning prior the engine swap. Is the engine the exact same? Something to do with the engine electronic module. Had the same proble with the fuel pump of a diesel engine from an Audi 80 exchanged for a Audi A4 engine. Same power, same everything.....except for the inside wiring of the fuel pump. Had to revert to the old fuel pump (at least the electronic top part of it). Not familiar with the 1.4 petrol but it might be a possible cause.
