EPG and EML Dashboard Lights Please Help

Hi

I recently purchased a A2 1.4SE 2001 model.
I subsequentely found out that the seller was being dishonest as I have had a few problems.
I have also been told by someone who knows the seller that the EPG and EML lights on the dashboard comes on.
I have not noticed this as all the lights goes off once started.
Can I ask what do these lights means and do these exist on this car?

the lights come on when the car's electrical system detected fault(s) from one of many many sensors around the engine and the car. It is impossible to tell what it means when engine management light is on. Faults can be detected as permanent or intermittent, either will be logged with the computer. If you think the seller was dishonest, get to your local garage and ask them to run a diagnostic scan and give you the print out, it is a 5 minute job.
 
The most common cause for these lights to come on are faulty/failing brake light switch. But as humps says get it scanned to see what comes up. What problems have you had that makes you think the seller was dishonest?
