Error code 17559/P1151 with 1.4 petrol AUA Engine

I can't believe the new cables for the spark plug give the error. The spark plug cable on the cylinder one fail.... New cable and now gogo A2 :D

Mine is sorted as well after full service, EGR valve and throttle body was cleaned.
fingers crossed it has been 3 days now without any warning lights and the car runs much much better!

Hi,

I just spotted this thread and thought I might share my experience of the same fault.

I also had the following:

17559 - Long Term Fuel Trim Additive Air; Bank 1; Range 1
P1151 - 35-10 - System too Lean - Intermittent

with my 1.4 AUA petrol. In addition to the logged fault, the engine warning light would come one after a variable period after a reset (e.g. 1-3 days) depending on how much the car was used. The car also idled at too slow an RPM when warm.

The cause was (many) air leaks causing the fuel mixture to be too lean. The is a measuring block value (sorry cannot remember which one) which shows the correction percentage that the ECU is applying to the fuel mixture. If that is out of range for a while, the fault is logged. It has to be out of range for a period before the fault is indicated so the light won't go on straight away after clearing.

The majority of the air leaks were caused by a cracked plastic oil separator and associated cracked hoses. The hole in the oil separate also produced a large oil leak which resulted in unexpectedly high oil consumption! Once these were fixed, the idling was OK but although the system was much better, it was still slightly too lean and outside the accepted range which mean that the fault was still being recorded.

Tracking down the last air leak was tricky, the whole inlet side was checked for leaks and gaskets changed. The problem turned out to be the gasket on the non-OEM EGR valve that was fitted during previous ownership. A genuine Audi gasket was installed which was a different design (it had an additional sealing flange) and this cured the problem. Its been running for 2 years without this issue since.

regards

Andrew

I too recently had this. System too lean, idling poorly. Spent a long time looking for leaks, I found one small one where a steel clip had been replaced by a tie rap. The pipe just pulled off.
I ran a couple of trips and found my long term fuel trim up at +20 or so (used DashCommand to do the logging) I also noted the MAF never seemed to get above 100g/s and at 6000 rpm it should have been more like 120-140 so I replaced the MAF too as it seemed to be under reading. I was fairly grotty and just wouldn't clean up. So far so good.

This was on my petrol 180bhp beetle turbo, not the A2.

Next time I need to look for a vac leak I'm going to make my own smoke tester like this one. I have already earmarked the parts I need on fleabay.

hi i too have an 2002 audi a2 1.4l gas engine, that has an intermittent chugg/lurch problem for couple of seconds, especially at take offs at junctions..check engine was on,took it to dealer where he scanned it and pulled codes for bad egr valve and a lamda sensor..replaced them, light came back, problem still there..took it back ,he replaced the coolant temp sensor for giving intermitent wrong temp to ecu(he had scanner while test driving it)..cleared codes ,the check engine light has not come on since this afternoon, but car almost died at stops twice on the way home and i get the feel that problem is not gone..i followed the vacuum leak solution that was described by others and saw the pics where th tube had a tiny hole..looking for suggestions..dealer cleaned the injectors and throttle body,he claimed that he swapped an ignition coil on cylinder 4 just incase that was the culprit...but it sounds that the mechanic is hunting the solution as well as i do..i will appreciate any suggestions..thanks guys..
