I need to weld a new flex at the front of the exhaust. Any one with a diagram illustrating what is involved in removing the complete exhaust system.

Much Appreciated

You will have to cut the pipework at some point - the OE system was fitted as a single piece and the front/rear axels are fitted around it.

Depending on petrol/diesel models, you'd be best off cutting around the catalyst area and then re-joining with a proper clip afterwards.

Thanks Mike
It is a diesel. I was thinking of getting a flex that you can weld on. Just not sure how close to th old flex I should cut..do not want to leave myself short, when welding the new flex to the existing sections.

Are there any diagrams before I get started?

Thanks Again

No diagrams, but have a search for my old thread on my stainless exhaist installantion - plenty of photos there.

In the past whilst looking under my A2 TDi, I thought I could see at least one place where the original one-piece exhaust is pre-marked for sawing through. Maybe there are other places too. Presumably this is to make part-replacement easier. Cannot recall how the mark(s) related to the catalyst though. Why they had to fit a one-piece system is beyond me.

Here's a link showing the TDi header pipe from the manifold:

One is before, the shiny one is after!!

Might give you more of an idea of the job in hand.

Thanks Mike

I take it you took off the DPF when you replaced yours. The flex on the new looks like a different length to the old. If so, why? Does it make a difference?

Thanks

Yes, it was de-catted with the installation of the new exhaust.

Why the different flexi section? No idea - it's what the specialist put on and it's been fine since.

Cheers,

Mike
