Hi all.

A while back I asked if anyone had any experience with buying an extended warranty for their A2. Mine comes up to its three year birthday in Jan and I have asked at Wimbledon Audi for the cost of an extra year's warranty - £480.

I haven't asked for a list containing all the exceptions and small print yet - will do today or tomorrow when I pick the car up. Anyone have any views on this, especially those with more experience than I of owning complex newer cars. £480 does seem a lot, but then if I had had to pay for labour costs for every little niggle I have had put right on my car, I would probably not think it is a pricey gamble, but an essential.

Hmmmmm.

Compared to our Miele washing machine, complete with a 5 year warranty (no extra charge) and now the offer of 5 extra years (10 years cover for 150 total!) with no strings, I'm seeing that this car ownership thingy could be a bit of a black hole for cash, if you're unlucky with your car....

Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated.

My nephew bought a fourth year for his 328 BMW for £520, so far he is about £1000 in profit.
When you think a key fob is about £100, Turbo £900, short engine £3000, gearbox £3500 etc, etc.
GULP!

Hi Maersk,

Well that seems like a good deal on the beemer. Not sure that parts are quite as expensive on the A2, but I will be quizzing them fully when I go in today to pick up my vehicle.

Looks like it's a pretty rare undertaking amongst members of the forum....

I think the majority on the forum memebers are still inside there 3 years warranty. It wont be long until I will be thinking along the same lines as you, therefore I am interested to know exactly what the extended warranty does cover.

This could be a good subject for a club discount. My club has managed a discount which would seem to be more than 50% off (and it's the same company that most manufacturers use.

Hi Kaine. I thought that might be the case with a goodly number, but surely there are a few A2 O C posters who've had their car from new? Maybe not, eh. Maybe most of us prefer to buy a previously enjoyed specimin or to buy new and trade in before the warranty runs out....

I'll post details when I have managed to get them.

Cheers,

James

<ears prick up at the mention of big reductions>

Hi there. So, what club managed to get such a massive discount and on which vehicle?

I'mvery interested in this. Half 480 is 240 and that's almost a bargain. [27]

Thanks,

James

Jaffa, unless I'm being stupid, the original 3 year warranty is carried over with changes of ownership. I presume being the second or third owner shouldn't discount you from buying extended warranty either.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.

New A2 - Ebony Black, Red Leather, CC, Symphony + all the previous options we had.

Yup, you're right, Rob.

I'm the third owner (if you count HWM Audi in Walton, who used it as a demonstrator - stationary) and the warranty has been very useful up until now. Hence my serious consideration of whether to shell out for another year.

LOve your new A2, BTW. Ebony Black is the best A2 colour, by far! :)

And the red leather/trim looks pimpin'.

Hollyrescue - thanks.
Well a quick search on google suggests the Civil Service Motoring Association? Is that it? Gutted that I have never worked for the civil service as it looks lke I am not eligible. ;/

Do you reckon we as the A2OC have enough members to get such a favourable deal? I noticed that the CSMA has over 350,000 members! Quite some purchasing power, there!
:)

Jaffa, you could be eligible if a family member worked for the Civil Service, or any organisation that was "Government" such as BT and their off shoots(or even as a consultant for some period), Post Office, etc. etc. I think maybe the problem with A2 members cars is that the majority would still be under warranty, so the number requiring the facility would be low if we tried to negotiate with the insurance company. Why not enquire of the CSMA if you are eligible? I know that they are expanding membership to "affinity groups" to counter the reduction in Civil Service members. I am a member of one of it's specialist committees and so am aware of some of the requirements. I pay £18.80 per month for the Volvo with executive pack (all the goodies, turbo, cc, computers etc.), it's cheaper if you pay yearly, and the A2 will be cheaper still because of it's smaller engine capacity. I know it's the same extended warranty offered by Volvo at more than twice the price.

Why thank you for such a detailed reply. My mother did work on a freelance basis for a goverment organisation a few years back.Would that give me eligibility?

I got my car back today and the gentleman seemed a little reluctant to give me details of what the warranty covered. I've asked him to get in touch with me in early Jan, but in the meantime, I think I'll investigate your suggestion and report back with any info.

Thanks again for the extra info. Most kind.

Cheers,

James
