Faulty Headlight

Firstly, apologies if this subject has already been discussed but I couldn't find anything, and the search facility was timing out.

This is probably a familiar story for few I'd imagine, my passenger side headlight badly steams up. It's quite bad now so I can't imagine what it will be like in the winter months?! I told my dealer (lookers of Thornaby) about the headlight the day I picked it up, but all they said was 'they all do that even TT's, that's just the way it is', so I stupidly replied 'oh, ok then'. I can't imagine that a headlight full of water droplets is a good thing, and in a few years it will be knackered! It is supposed to be a sealed unit as far as I'm aware.

The other point in my argument is, if they are all supposed to do it why doesn't the drivers side headlight do it, or indeed the rear lights?!

Has anyone had theirs changed? Am I just being fobbed off by my dealer? Faulty breaks could be a common fault across the range, but it doesn't make it right! I do know of one person who had them changed twice and now they are fine.

Please help and advise...

We had one of our changed under warranty. At first we were given the usual 'they all do that, BMW's, VW's, Audi's etc'. Then they actually looked at it and agreed that the water was excessive - large droplets, not just a fine coating.

I also asked why, if it's the norm, only one was getting water in it. No sensible reply was received.

In the winter months, you will use your lights a lot more and there is a good chance that the water will decrease, if not dissapear altogether, with the heat from the lamps.

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.

I always drive with my lights on - winter and summer, day and night... And my lights still steam up... And it only happened after a visit to the hand car wash and they sprayed the car with a high pressure water machine... they struggled to clear some French flies and insects from the headlights and I think this is when the water got in...

Mine steamed up too, one more so than the other which was hardly noticeable. Took it into Franklin, Leeds thinking they would replace one side (driver side) but when I went to collect it they had replaced both - bargain!!!

I'm taking it in tomorrow morning for some other jobs, (as mentioned in the dealer section of the forum), should I be requesting that my lights be changed? or do I have to just put up with a misty light?

Like I say I had mine replaced so I'd insist. Just to be sure use a jet wash on it before you take it in, the result of that may tip the scales in your favour - good luck!!!

thanks, will let you know how I get on...

We had ours replaced 2 times *(should be twice I think[13])
But still the fog came back as I used to fiddle a lot with cars in the past I bought a tork screwdriver took the whole unit out removed and replaced the rubbers *(as the dealer should have done) properly took me 2 hours total work the result is 100% no more mist inside the unit.
