A tip to prolong the service intervals is to change the oil between services yourself. There is an oil opacity meter in the sump which measures the colour/opacity of the oil determing tha current state of the oil, this is also a factor as to when it needs servicing.

RTV, that seems a useful tip. I assumed that it counted the number of starts, because it went from svce in 1600 miles to svce in 400 miles in about 3 starts.

If you are phoning around when ferries are cheap why not try phoning abroad? Seriously. I go to a Belgian Audi dealer (Vanderhaeghen NV in Courtrai, near Lille), save £££ including fares in the off season and have an afternoon to stock up with booze etc on the way back. They speak English, French, Dutch, German. Their labour charge is about £30 per hour. By contrast the Audi garage in Battersea charged £78 an hour several years ago...

I am informed my dealer charges £96 per hour plus VAT, it would be worth phoning Timbuktu at that rate. Thanks for the tip, it is certainly worth thinking about.

£96 hour + VAT!!!!!!!!!!!

That is just outrageous. It's worth asking wether all the technicians used to work on Concorde or the Shuttle prior to their switch to Audi. At that kind of money, I'd expect perfection every time, an A8 as a courtesy car and Kelly Brook as my chauffeur for the day (she's local and knows the area ;))

Is there anyone more expensive out there?

Don't drink drive! Not only is it socially unaceptable, it also harms A2's.
Was a 1.4SE petrol. http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/uk14.htm http://www.audi-a2.co.uk/safety.htm
New A2 - Ebony Black, Red Leather, CC, Symphony + all the previous options we had.

Rob, can I have Vicky Butler Henderson as my chauffeur? I might even pay a bit more then. I don't even care if she doesn't know the area.
I had a call from ??? asking if I was satisfied with my service.I said I was, "was there any area in which you werent satisfied?" "Yes" I said "the price". "Your comment will be passed on".It wasnt the local dealer, so was it an outside agency?.
I hope they weren't working on Concorde or the Shuttle, bits fall off them with disastrous results. They did do my open sky on warranty though, and that works better than it ever did, no more clunks and sluggish opening.

I changed my TDi oil and filter at 10,000 miles (Longlife 2 from Halfords)and it made no difference to the service indicator reading.
The 'official' service was done by Lookers, Thornaby after 2 years (21,000 miles)with the indicator reading approx 30,000. I provided the oil (Halfords again) and saved around £20.With the brake fluid change it cost over £260 which equates to 13pence per mile!!

Makes my 33.8p per mile look sick, and me!!!!!! Next time I will travel somewhere to obtain a reasonable price, Courtrai, Nottingham, Thornaby, any other suggestions?

My Tdi's going in for first service at 30k in a couple of weeks. They thrive on miles - minimum 120 a day in my case at the moment. The car is 16 months old and chipped. When I bought it Audi Finance was offering a deal for £100. For that you got all servicing including stuff like wiper blades, etc, for the first 30k or 2 years. In my case all that's done is save me from the extortionate dealers until next time (hopefully 60k) but for you city dwellers running cold a lot it would have been great value. I don't know if any such deals are still available but if anyone out there is going to buy an A2 it's got to be worth asking.

mm, How did you find out about the £100 deal?

13 p per mile ???

21,000 miles x 13p = £2730

I think you mean a cost of 1.3p per mile.

The £100 service deal was offered to me by the dealer when I bought my A2 new in 2002. Don't know if it's still available.

Yep, got the £100 deal on my A2 in 2002 too.
