Footwell heating - cold feet!

My 2003 A2 1.2TDi (LHD) has an issue with no air flow to the footwells.

I have previously noticed that if I thump the lower section of the dash, I would get some air flow through to the footwells but that now has stopped working as well.

As we're now heading into the colder months again, I'd really like to have warm feet again!

Is there a heater flap motor that can easily be replaced or is this going to be a complete dash out job to fix?

I've searched on the forums but can't find anyone who has posted about this before.

vcds scan will tell you which flap/motor or position pot is faulty, are you able to do such scan via OBD port?

I'll plug in. I have VCDS. Is the outcome of that going to make any difference as to whether it's dash out or not? Surely there's just one motor for the footwells?

usually there is a motor and potentiometer to give flap position feedback so it could be one of both so worth to check by VCDS
