Fuel Filler Not Releasing

I have just bought an A2 TDIse 2002. I have a problem opening the fuel filler flap. I persume I am doing it correctly: I persume you simply press the filler flap release switch on the pillar and the flap should open whether the ignition is on or not?
The only way I can get the flap open is by operating the central locking open button on my key fob whilst pressing the flap release switch at the same time.
Any ideas anybody?

Thanks!

Hi Paul, welcome to the A2oc.
My normal routine for operating the fuel filler flap is to switch off the ignition and remove the key, open the drivers door then activate the filler release switch before getting out. I'm not sure if there is a time limit between removing the key and operating the button but i'll have a play tomorrow and report back
I hope you are enjoying the car in spite of this minor glitch

Cheers Spike

In the winter I have had problems with the filler flap because of ice sealing the flap.
