Fuel filter change !

Hello there . I am going to give the A2 a full service shortly , the fuel filter was changed in 2010 however the car has only done 12000 since then ! .With the low milage since the last change of fuel filter ! can i leave it for another service as from what i have read it can be a tricky job ?.

The newer Type is inside a plastic carrier, usually Breaks when someone uses the wrong hex nut to open it or just over tightens it as it should be fitted just over hand tight ( maybe 25nm its on the cap anyway for all to see )
The older type is far easier.
If you can change your oil you should be able to change this easy enough

Many thanks yes mine is the older canister type and i will change it myself after finding the audi manual online .... just need to be careful of the ali heat sheild !

25Nm is a bit more than hand tight!

.........Indeed it is. The drain plug on the newer fuel filter assemblies should only be tightened to 2Nm.
Any tighter and it WILL crack and allow air into the fuel system, and also diesel will leak.
If the drain plug gets damaged you'll have to buy the whole fuel filter housing, as the drain plug is not sold seperately.

The main bottom cover should be tightened to 25nm though.

There is a date for the filter change-over:

Before May 2002 it's the old metal canister type.
May 2002 and onwards it's the new paper element type.

The 2 types are not interchangeable (well, they are, but not without modification to pipework).

Cheers
Jeff
