a audi a2 1.4 tdi,,, the as a issue with the car,,, drives fine when a full tank soon as it goes near half way its keeps cutting out/hard to start up.... add new injectors and new filter...any suggestion before i takes it to a garage and gets ripped off! p.s no engine lights on

I do seem to remember this from another member---but i can't remember the cure for sure but check these points 1 check if opening the fuel cap helps-as it could be causing a vacuum. 2 check fuel tank pick up is clear 3 check fuel tank is not contaminated and causing fuel blockage 3 change the fuel filter again and see if any rubbish is on it. hope that helps mike

Hi Mike,

I like that logic, it would make sense.
If the breather is blocked this would definitely give those symptoms, so the next time it happens just removing the fuel cap should indicate this, apart from a hissing sound of the air rushing in, the running should improve, even if the cap is put back on straight away (because the tank now contains air).

still not done this yet still got a full tank of fuel where is the fuel tank pick up thanks for the help on my 5th audi a2 tdi but this one has been a pain
with this problem when i got the car i gave it a full service with all filters and a friend did the cam belt with the water pump and new thermostat and coolant switch and lots more parts

just went to half a tank again same problem again wouldnt start again so i got the green flag out but they just wanted to tow me home i took the fuel cap off and did nothing
i phoned a vw speacialist they said the fuel pump is not working and only when the tank is full the gravity making it run he said he can check to see if its runnng ok like i said no engine lights on and when the tank is full it pulls like a train with so much power with a 1.4 tdi lump

well happy took the fuel sender out of the tank and it clean it out i wished i took pics it was full of slime .so i took the a2 for a good run and best news went well under half a tank
and the car was great so happy just one more to sort out and happy again like i said this is my 5th audi a2 and still love them with all the problems with this one i was going to give up
but with the owners clubs you get to no the a2 so much you can sort all the problems out
