Fuel Sender removal

I want to remove my fuel sender to try to check it to recify fact that gauge only reads3/4 full even when tank is brimmed. Does anyone know if I undo the large nut ( plastic) that holds the sender in the tank if I need any seals when I put it back. ie are the seals use once only or can I get away if careful with using the old ones. Don't want car to be out of action .

If i remove the sender will I be able to bench test it using a multimeter to get resistance readings.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Having lloked at the service manual, I can see no reference to a seal. However, neither can I see any refernce to bench testing the sender. The only apparent way to alter the output is via VAG-COM or similar by adapting a specific channel in a specific controller so that the senders output matches the actual fuel level.

Cheers,

Mike
