Future Junior Member!!

A2OC Donor
I wasn’t sure whether to post this or not, but in the end I have decided why not.

You may recall my first thread, back in November, which mentioned that I traded in my 3 door Astra 2.2, for the more practical 4 door A2, in light of future plans to start a family.

Well, it looks like I am going to test the theory of the A2’s family carrying capabilities sooner than I thought. My wife had her twelve week scan last Wednesday and is expecting our first child in July. [Yippeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:) ].

My wife and I are both delighted with our news and I very much look forward to those trips to the zoo [etc…], when the child is born. [Any excuse to drive the A2!].

We have my wife’s Meriva for long summer breaks away, but don’t envisage the storage capacity of the A2 to be problematic for the more mundane daily trips out. [I will probably have to remove the false floor though and possibly ditch the space saver spare for the foam puncture repair can]. Although I hope to never have to test them out, the safety features of the car and the ‘sideguard’ air bags in mine, mean that I will feel very safe with my little one in the back of the A2.

A new baby and an A2 owner; can life get any better?

Regards,

Darren [Soon to be proud father!]:D

I'm sure we all echo those thoughts! Best wishes and fingers crossed.

On a motoring note, however (sorry!) - is the Meriva really that much bigger than the A2? I've only sat in the rear seat of one for 5 minutes and it didn't feel more spacious to me... Interested to hear your more direct experience!

Thanks!!

Many thanks to both ULP & GrayB for your kind wishes, they are most welcome and appreciated.

My good lady wife is in fine form and I am becoming a dab hand around the house with all the domestic chores, whilst testing my decorating skills on our new arrivals bedroom.

GrayB, in reply to your question on the size of the Meriva; I am totally impressed by just how big the car really is. I stand to be corrected, but I am sure that the Meriva is based on the floor plan of the Corsa, [my wife’s former car], and if this is the case, then I can honestly say this is where the similarities end. The boot is cavernous, even with the rear seats in the upright position. Fold them flat, however, and you could be fooled into thinking it was a transit. [Okay, maybe ‘OTT’, but it really is huge]. There is enough storage for a family holiday and with the split 60/40 seating, this adds an extra dimension. With regard to general cabin space, I would say that the Meriva has the edge over the A2, but that is not taking anything away from this remarkable little Audi.

Given the choice of the two cars over-all, in terms of practicality, performance, handling, fuel economy and damn right ‘fun’, I would choose my A2 TDI over my wife’s petrol 1.8 16v Meriva, every time.

Thank you both for your kind wishes once again!!

Kind Regards,

Darren

I sat in one once and I would need a lot of convincing it's bigger inside than the A2, although it's probably wider. Nice car, I'm sure, but I found it a bit...well...erm...dull![/QUOTE]

ULP,

Without turning this great forum into something Vauxhall; a brief reply.

I would say that the Meriva also has a higher roof line which increases the feeling of cabin space. The interior is very nice on our model, with some nice touches; although the materials used are not up to the standard of the A2.

As for being 'dull'; the 1.8 litre engine is a tad 'flat' for my liking and my A2 TDI has far more torque. The handling is also far better in the A2 and makes this my car of choice, as per my earlier email.

I am sure that the Meriva will be more than adequate for our future needs as a young family, however.

More importantly; it is my wife's car and she loves it!!!!!!!!!!;)

Happy motoring!!

A2OC junior member has arrived!!

Well, those past few months have flown by and as of 20:06 on Sunday the 16th July 2006, my wife and I are now the proud parents of Kayleigh Anne Marie!!:)

The A2OC is not the forum to discuss the delights of parenthood, but suffice to say that we are both thrilled with our new arrival and that we now understand the meaning of life!!

On an A2 note, (about time…), the car has been perfect. The travel system fits snugly and the luggage space and versatility of the rear seats, (split fold / removal), mean that the car easily accommodates our needs.

The A2 has also received the approval of our daughter - with the severe hot and humid weather of late, the climate control and the environment of the cabin have made for an ideal place in which to seek sanctuary.

I am now the owner of two unique elements – Kayleigh Anne Marie and the A2 – both of which are testament to just what can be achieved with a little time and effort.., (perhaps a little to much detail – LOL!!).;)

Regards,

Darren [Now a very proud father!!]:D
