G250 Steering error message

When I ran VCDS on my A2 is brought up a G250 error message. This would confirm the steering issue that causes the yellow steering wheel warning on the dashboard and the heavy steering when the light comes on.

Mine is an early car and im led to believe that these G250 sensors are not available separately and that the rack is different from the later cars.

can anyone confirm?

Up to VIN 8Z-1-20235 the steering angle sensor is on the rack. It is available separately. 6Q2 423 291 AX. See number 20 in this diagram.

Check your VIN to see if it applies. If its after number 20235 of year 2001 then you don't have one on the steering rack. You can also look under the car to check!

Thanks, mines a ‘99/00 model so I’ve been told it’s got the G250 unit.
