I wanted to ask a question about my 1.4tdi a2 and its problematic gear change .
3rd gear has felt a little insipid for a while now but until recently I have had no problems engaging it at all.
however it has just very recently ( last 2 days ) developed an intermittent fault ..
initially it seems to go into 1 and 2 fine , but 3rd is very hit and miss , so is 4th but less so .. 5th not so bad.
by hit and miss I mean it sometimes doesn't go in at all or when it does it feels like there is something in the way or it grinds and does not go in at all..
very occasionally nothing wants to go in anywhere ..
double de clutching seems to help , and changing gears up and down with the engine off feels no better than with it running ... still 3rd feels the most insecure.. definitely lumpy.
I have not found any obvious clutch slip .
the car and gearbox have 205k on the clock .. the clutch was replaced about 25k ago when I (not actually me) put a new (not brand new) engine in..
I am guessing its the synchro ?
I am also guessing that if that's the case then would be either beyond economical repair or it would have to be a gearbox replacement job ?
any input however brief would be gratefully received..
