Ok, I'm taking bids now for the cost of my A2 service today. My local Audi have my car for today, please tell me how you think the following will set me back. I will post the answer tonight when I get my car back! This is what I'm having done...

- Warranty repair (hopefully): Fix overhead front left light switch
- Warranty repair (hopefully): Check boot light/switch is working correctly – intermittent fault
- Replace front brake pads
- Reset disc brake warning indicator
- Rear brake check – report on wear
- Check/Tighten handbrake cable
- First Service – oil change etc etc
- Reset variable service intervals indicator
- Headlight alignment (left side points downwards)
- New wiper blade (added to list 11/04/03)

Also...

- Quote for bonnet dent repair (see below) - how much do we think this'll be?

£275 for the service if as I suspect those two things are under warranty and disks don't need replacing

Dent: well you get companies that can "roll" out dents like that without need for paint - £80 or so... but a full spray and or new bonnet... LOADS of dosh!!!

Look at http://www.dent-1st.com/ It even pictures an Audi TT!!!

Oh sorry, I should have said, the front brake pads definitely 100% need replacing. I had a look last night with an inspection light and they are very very thin.

Keep guessing...

£800? [:0]

They really screw you for discs/pads. My A4 had pads and discs done last year in a service, along with other stuff, usually about £120-180. With pads and discs, as well as rear springs come to think of it was £1000. With the other stuff you mention it might get as high as £800 if you are unlucky.

Re the bonnet, ouch, don't want to think about it. Paintjobs usually mean that they charge you for the entire tins they use (but you can't take the unused paint away - I have asked) and also I have never had to have bodywork straightened, luckily all my scrapes are just that, scrapes. They usually average between £100-200 for paintjob, but with bodywork, more. I never go to Audi for paintjobs anymore, SOOOO costly.

No... I included pads in my extimate but not discs...

Guess what?! Despite having dropped of my A2 at 8:00am this morning, by 6:00pm it still wasn't ready!! So they gave me a new A3 to go home in. Hopefully I'll get my A2 back tomorrow!

Top tip for the brake pads - buy the original parts and change them yourself. I'm no mechanic and its very easy to do. With the next service due in another 30k no matter how much the wear they will advise new pads - I can guarantee it!

A socket set and one hour of your time is all you need. Put them on about 1k before a service and let them tell you if they need replacing. At least you will ahve them inspected by a 'trained' mechanic to confrim you have put them on okay.

£2734 + Vat. Only kidding!!!
Seriously buy and change the pads yourself. As for the paint job I would'nt want an Audi dealer to rip me off, try an independent respray specialist. There must be plenty who can cope with aluminium, as it does'nt look too difficult a job to me. After all you could probably just take the bonnet to them!( I've driven with mine missing!)

My bid is £265 for service and £500 for dent.

Hi:

I think you´ll pay 248 Pounds for Service and 116 for Painting

Good Luck!!

Okay heres my estimate: Service etc £330. Dent £110. Both incl VAT. I think the dent will be 'rolled out' by a specialist firm provided the paint is not cracked.

The paint isn't cracked, it's purely a 'ding' in the bonnet caused by a trolley rolling into it or something (I don't know how it got there!).

I actually had 'Chipsaway' look at it a few months ago but they said that due to the contruction of the bonnet, they would not be able to fix it as they cannot access the back of the dent. So it'll be interesting to see what Audi say about it.

Just spoke to them and they claim that my car will be ready at 12:30pm today so all will be revealed then!!

I have to admit though that driving (thrashing) their nearly new A3 last night and this morning was quite pleasurable, it's a nice solid car, but completely lacks the character that the A2 has.

I had a 130bhp A3 TDI Sport as a courtesy car... boy does that thing go... :D:D Brilliant...

But way too boring relative to an A2 even with the extra performance... and I saw the new A3 at Geneva and it was no better really... will be as common on our roads in a few years time...

All I can say is....OUCH!!!

£423.04 for:

- Replacment front brake pads
- Reset disc brake warning indicator
- Rear brake check – report on wear
- First Service – oil change etc etc
- Reset variable service intervals indicator
- New wiper blade (added to list 11/04/03)

Sadly, the parts they needed were not in stock so I have to go back again for:

- Warranty repair: Fix overhead front left light switch
- Warranty repair: Check boot light/switch is working correctly – intermittent fault
- Headlight alignment (warranty)

Everything was ok with it except that the metal bracket that holds the speaker for my car phone kit has been completely bent on both sides so that it now leans over to one side. I'm sure it's not something someone could do without noticing - so I am very disappointed that it was not pointed out to me when I collected my car. This was only installed recently and certainly was not damaged in any way when I gave them my car. So I have asked that they fix/replace this when I go back to have the warranty work done.

They decided not to bother providing me with the quote for a dent, despite me asking about three times. So I will try again when I go back!

By the way, this is Aston Green Audi in Slough in case anyone's interested!

The first day that they actually do everything I asked for by the time I arrive to collect at my pre-arranged time is the day that I'll eat my hat. I'd even go and buy one first!

That sounds WAY too expensive!!!

I had the same done at 32000miles, so the normal PLUS both front pads, one left front tyre (£120) and one new and specially sprayed passenger side mirror housing for about £420 as well... So I got a tyre and a mirror thrown in... and they did everything asked first time a well as get my rear seat to fit... I bent the bottom brackets trying to put it back - but could not figure this out myself - but they did and this must have taken some time... That price did not however include oil as I took my own oil bought from Halfords (£32 for 5 litres vs their £58 or so)...

I'll go see tonight if I can find my receipt...

I did not however get my little tin of mints! They were still doing the tyre when I arrived and thus the mints and the complimentary FT newspaper was missed... I did get it previously when a warranty claim was done...

About the only complimentary thing I get is the car washed - unless you count the film of grease on the steering wheel which is marginally better than everything covered in Mr Sheen which I've had before - I loathe polish on the interior, everything feels so icky afterwards.
