I will be taking delivery shortly of an A2 TDI Sport. It lists in the dealership spec. the Thatcham Category 1 Approved Alarm. Not wishing to appear thick but can anyone tell me if this is just approved in the sense that Audi security is approved by the Thatcham hallmark, or has it been fitted in addition to the standard spec. I dont want to show my lack of knowledge to the salesman and thereby invite B.S.

I believe the A2 has an approved thatcham catagory 1 device fitted at factory.

As a side note, I always find the thatcham website interesting...

http://www.thatcham-sites.org/nvsr/html/cars/index.html

click on car search, and select the Audi A2...

Gets 5/5 stars for theft of, and 4/5 stars for theft from. Compared to many other cars, that is a very good score!

Both the factory fitted alarm and factory fitted immobiliser are Thatcham 1 approved.

Manufacturers have to pay Thatcham to have the system tested and get on their list. If Thatcham testing costs are not paid Thatcham don't approve it and it doesn't get Thatcham approval!

Thats absolutely great. Thanks to all who have contributed, so from what has been said it appears standard fitting. I have learned also that if the system is over and above standard fitting, and in order to authenticate and register change of ownership, a certificate a bit like a log book accompanies the car. I had not seen it referred to in Dealer specs or indeed in any of the Audis literature on the A2.
