Handbrake cable replacement

So.... Just started this pain in the butt job, is it really necessary to have to remove so much of the interior for this? Especially the centre console?

I think so - I'm doing the left/right cables at the moment and without removing the console, access to the pin and clip that secure the centre cable to the lever would be very tight, to the point of being almost impossible. I'd be very worried about dropping something and just wouldn't risk it.

The console is a few torx screws and some pulling/swearing, took about 30 minutes to remove it in my case. Make sure the cable adjuster nut is eased off all the way back without coming off, get the handbrake lever as upright as you can once all the screws are out and the console comes away fairly easily.

Thanks for the reply, looks llike I made a schoolboy error and didn't back off the handbrake adjuster.. that'll be why I couldn't get the console over the handbrake!! Luckily I gave up until next weekend so didn't break anything.

I'm taking my time with this as obvs don't want to brake anything! Console now off, now how do I remove this pin/ clip thing?

Carefully, and if it was anything like me, with your breath held 😂

I found if a pick worked well, just slid under the top part of the clip to lift it up and once the tension was released the bottom came away easy. The main pin just pulls out once the clip is off

Finished this PITA job now, could have got away without taking the interior and centre console off, taking the handbrake clip and pin off gave only a few mm more so I could disconnect both cables from under the car, wasn't too much of a fiddle, although the fuel filter housing and pipes got in the way a bit! although the old cables weren't too bad the new ones do make a difference.
