I'd quite like to get the interior looking a bit fresher and aside from looking at the other panels, I would like to retrim the dashboard in something nice - perhaps alcantara or similar.
Has anyone tried this in the past?
Cheers,
Andy
I've covered parts of the dash in blue leather that matches the rest of the interior. That's the rectangle at the top of the dash, the passenger grab-rail and the instrument cowl. I think that it looks quite tasteful. Why don't you come and have a look at it, Andy?

"The Project" had the headlining re -trimmed in black Alcantara, but the trimmer had a really tough job and wasted LOADS of Alcantara.
The backing on the Alcantara was just too think to get it to take the deep curves (especially in the front corners and near the front interior light.)
Luckily he did not pass the cost on to me.
But when he used the thinner backed Alcantara it was fine.
The extra expense was having to buy all new trim for the roof, interior light units, sun visors, handles etc. etc. THAT mounted up a lot.
But if you are keeping the same colour and using a standard headlining material and don't mind gluing every inch of it in place, then it is an option.,

I just saw where you are David - only 40 mins down the road
Would love to pop over and talk shop
I can do it in less than 40 minutes! Well don't just say it .... do it! I'll "put the kettle on", ready! When are you coming?

Hi,
I've just bought my new baby, a Papaya Orange 2001 1.4TDI SE. It seems well cared for mechanically, but the interior is in poor shape and the exterior needs a bit of TLC. I've just bought a second hand roof lining as the original is snagged here and there. How easy is it to fit? Can I do it in a few hours with a few basic tools/trim tools?
Cheers,
Jules
Hi Jules.
Is it definately papaya? If it is then its one of the rarest colours and to find it in tdi is super rare. Can you post a photo.
The headlining can definately be changed in a few hours and needs no specialist tools. The most difficult part is not damaging clips etc while removing the panels on the a,b,c and d pillars.
