Have a car and it isn't an A2

After months of trawling through car adverts, going on lengthy public transport journeys and general misery we finally settled on a car and it is not an A2.

We got a 2002 A160 Auto with 75,000 miles for £3,000.

I am quite sad that we didn't get an A2 but we really did try. My wife is due to have our first baby in a week and we needed a car pronto. The Auto box is good for the missus driving through London and there are leather seats which will be good to wipe off the bottle, puke, poo off the seats caused by the baby.

Things that I have noticed about it that let it down against our old A2:

Floor height. My legs are horizontal in the A-Class. A2 there was a nice angle down to the pedals.
Fuel consumption. Filled up the 50l tank and 130 miles later we are at half a tank.
Cabin light. While the car has a good sunroof, it is not glass like the OSS.
DIS - lack of.
Boot - no separator in the boot.
CD Player - Changer is in the boot and not in the cabin as in the A2.
Engine noise - The auto box does not change up as early as I would like and the engine noise is a lot louder in the A-Class. And I loved the sound of the TDi. The Merc unit does not have the same velvety rattle of the A2 TDi.

But worst of all - no owners club comparable to the A2OC. One or two niggles already with the car and nobody to ask about them. I posted on a site called babybenz and there has been no response at all. I have sent off £8 to a guy called Albert Rowe for a CD with the promise that he will try his best to help me with anything else but the greatest thing with the A2OC is that it covers the whole spectrum of trim levels, engines, options that there is always someone who knows a bit about what is going on in your car.

Mark my words though, I will own an A2 TDi SE again. I've got the rest of my life.

Hope everyone is well,

Smick.

I can highly recommend the http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/ forum. It's a generic MB forum, but friendly and knowledgeable. I'm still a member despite selling my CLK a while ago.

edit: just seen that you have to pay to join babybenz....I wonder how many members there are vs. the free Mercedes forums?

My wife has a 2001 A170 which I have worked on. I have also posted on babybenz in the past but I've not been there for a long time. Whats the problem I may be able to help?

There is a chap called Andy Gale, who runs a MB specialist garage in Birmingham I think.

Do a google search, he is very knowledgeable and answers email queries within a day or two. There is no pressure to use his garage but I would should have no hesitation in using him should I need to!
