Getting a 20 year old lump that is worth fitting is almost impossible.Certainly seems that way sadly, do you have excessive pressure in the system? According to Audi Technical you should not skim the heads but I spoke to an engineers in Bradford who said they had done them. I find it hard to find anyone that's done a 1.4 pd head gasket online as it does seem the engine change is the preferred method think the cost of head work, plus head bolts, gaskets, injector seals and securing bolts makes a replacement lump more viable but I would be interested in opening my old one up when I get them changed and see if it's possible to see what's failed
The problem with skimming is the hardened valve seat inserts that are very close to the head base. So close that the valves protrude below the head base. Any skim has to be lite or the fly cutter will snag the valve seat inserts. Any skimmed amount has to be added to the piston protrusion for calculating the gasket thickness. Otherwise valves and pistons could clash.Your probably right but buying another engine you buying a unknown,
I think I prefer to do head probably get skimmed and thicker gasket plus
fit new cambelt kit same time parts not to expensive and my labour free
Watching with tremendous interest! Best of luck and please keep us posted!Yes I understand about the skimming side I will get it checked to see
If it has warped and have a chat with our local engine specialist.
Oxy gets the 4 turbo to exhaust nuts but then there is still the turbo hanging from the head.I'm almost sure you can remove head with manifold still attached I think
hardest part is undoing the 4 exhaust bolts, rests not to bad
Can anyone recommend head gasket for Audi 14tdi 75 there seems to be different thickness and I'm not sure what one to go for
